Those who wish to play as someone else in the Resident Evil 4 remake can now do so, thanks to a recent mod that allows players to take on the role of Ada Wong. As one of the most anticipated video games of 2023, Capcom's reimagining of one of the survival horror franchise's most celebrated entries has been selling by the millions, with a lot of praise being given for not only modernizing the iconic RE title, but keeping much of its nostalgia.
Part of the reason for the original and remake's success is its cast of memorable characters, such as Ada Wong who is quite enigmatic in the Resident Evil universe. Her role in the games she appears in is not always clear, and her relationship with Leon Kennedy is fairly complicated. Needless to say, she's become something of a fan favorite over the years, and now someone has made it possible to play as her in the recent remake.
On Nexus Mods, user Raq has released a mod for Resident Evil 4 that allows players to slip into the red outfit of Ada, completely replacing Leon's character model. A video shows the modification in action and while all the animations are there, the original voice work for Leon has had to be taken out, which renders Wong mute throughout this playthrough, save for her fighting grunts. It's a pretty impressive mod, despite it being exactly the same game but with a different character model. Raq says that Ada has her own animations that have come from the Mercenaries mode. The fact that the mod went live on April Fool's Day suggests this could easily have been a joke, but recent updates and comments show that it is real.
Although Leon Kennedy is one of the most popular Resident Evil character, Ada is still a top choice for many, despite having not made as many appearances in the RE games as Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine. Aside from her own campaign in RE6 and the Assignment Ada and Separate Ways content from the original Resident Evil 4, fans haven't really had much opportunity to do a full playthrough as Wong, so this mod for the recent remake should appeal to quite a few.
Sadly, it's not all good news when it comes to the enigmatic spy. Recently, Resident Evil 4's Lily Gao was the subject of online harassment. Gao did the voice work for Ada Wong, but was hit with a wave of toxic negativity that forced her to remove many of her Instagram posts. Fortunately, the community has been behind her, and Gao herself has also hit back at the criticisms.
Resident Evil 4 is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
