Resident Evil 4 remake follows the story of Agent Leon S. Kennedy during his quest to find and rescue Ashley Graham, the president's daughter, from a deranged cult in Spain. Upon arriving at his destination, he and his comrades become separated, leaving him to complete this mission on his own.

After finding Ashley in Resident Evil 4 remake, she will join Leon as they attempt to find a way to escape. Sadly, they end up delving even deeper into the twisted land they find themselves in and become separated multiple times during their ventures. Toward the climax of Chapter 9, Ashley is forced to explore The Castle on her own and will have to solve the Grandfather Clock puzzle in order to progress the story.

Upon gaining control of Ashley in Chapter 9, players will need to explore the darkened halls of The Castle and find a way to free Leon from the cage he has been trapped. Without access to Leon's weapons, however, the player will be forced to rely mostly on stealth in order to reach the end of each room and acquire the treasures hidden throughout.

Ashley finds the Grandfather Clock door puzzle in Resident Evil 4 Remake

After collecting the lantern at the beginning of this section, the player will need to follow the linear path forward until they reach the room with two exits. The ordinary wooden door on the left leads to the Library, while the door with the Grandfather Clockmarks the real way forward. In order to open the Grandfather Clock door, the player will need to adjust the hands on the clock to the correct positions.

To find the solution to the Grandfather Clock puzzle, players must venture into the library, turn right, and explore the room's far end. There, they will be able to place the lantern on a pedestal near some bookshelves, which will allow Ashley to enter a small new area, wherein she must turn the crank to lower the staircase to the upper level.

Once the stairs have been lowered, Ashley can ascend to find the Bunch of Keys item.

Unlocking the elevator in Resident Evil 4 Remake

Backtracking to the area just in front of the Library's elevator, Ashley can use the third key on the Bunch of Keys to unlock the gate and head to the floor above. Two Armaduras spawn in the Library once Ashley collects the Bunch of Keys, so players will need to make use of the crawlspaces around the area if they wish to avoid getting attacked by them.

If the player thinks they are about to get hit, they should shine the lantern at the Armaduras to briefly freeze them.

Ashley finds the Hastily Written Note in Resident Evil 4 Remake

After exiting the elevator, a brief cutscene will play, after which Ashley can turn left and proceed behind the two bookcases to find the Hastily Written Note, on which lies the solution to the Grandfather Clock puzzle.

If players are playing Resident Evil 4 remake on the Assisted or Standard difficulty settings, the solution to the Grandfather Clock puzzle will always be 11:04. Those playing on Hardcore or Professional, however, will need to change the time on the clock to 7:00.

If players wish to bypass exploring the Library, they can move the Grandfather Clock's hands to their correct positions upon finding the door. This will grant immediate access to The Mausoleum, but Ashley will not be able to open the optional treasure chest inside without first obtaining the Bunch of Keys from the Library.
