In a field that is as crowded as the horror genre, the Resident Evil series has managed to stand out and endure for decades thanks to a cast of classic characters, unforgettable villains, and a thrilling atmosphere. The games have veered into interesting directions in an attempt to keep gameplay engaging for series newcomers and veterans. There have been a few leaks that suggest that a Resident Evil 4 remake is on the way. One of the leaks comes from DuskGolem, a trusted source of information in the Resident Evil community. According to DuskGolem, the remake's codename is "Chainsaw." Capcom is allegedly taking criticisms of Resident Evil 3's remake onboard while working on Resident Evil 4. On Twitter, DuskGolem states that it is unlikely that the remake will be an exclusive title due to how big of a game it is.

In November 2020, Capcom was hacked, which resulted in many of the company's internal plans being leaked to the public. Information regarding several games was prematurely revealed, including plans to release titles such as Dragon's Dogma 2 and Street Fighter 6 in 2022. According to the leaks, a remake of Resident Evil 4 is in the works and is set to release in late 2022.

Capcom is not the only company that has had to deal with data breaches. In September 2021, a developer managed to access a list of hundreds of games in Nvidia GeForce Now's database. While some of the games were already released, a few games listed were unreleased and unannounced.

Among the unreleased PC games listed is Ghost of Tsushima, Monster Hunter 6, and a Resident Evil 4 remake. Responding to the leaked list, Nvidia claimed that the games named are both "released and/or speculative titles, used only for internal tracking and testing." Nevertheless, since the leaks, some of the games have gone on to be confirmed, including a God of War PC port and a remaster of the Grand Theft Auto trilogy.

Yet another Resident Evil 4 remake leak has also come from D.C. Douglas who claims he is the voice actor for Albert Wesker in Resident Evil 4's remake. He also shared concept art of how Wesker will appear in the remake. Since then, Douglas has deleted his Twitter account.

Some supposed hints from Capcom also suggest that a Resident Evil 4 remake is on the way. On August 22, Capcom sent out a cryptic tweet with the message "4. Itchy. Tasty." Fans of Resident Evil will recognize that the line comes from the first game when a character describes their own mutation after being exposed to the T-Virus. While this may be Capcom teasing players and hinting at a Resident Evil 4 remake, it is also likely that the tweet is simply a nod to an iconic phrase.

Another hint may have come from the PlayStation Showcase which took place in September 2021. The show opened up with a live-action trailer showcasing many of PlayStation's most iconic franchises. Gamers with keen eyes have noticed many hints and teases for future PlayStation projects in the trailer. For instance, at roughly 34 seconds in, posters depict Horizon Zero Dawn's Aloy in a Fall Guys costume. Since then, it has been announced that Aloy is coming to Fall Guys.

The trailer also features what appears to be the symbol Resident Evil 4 uses for the Las Plagas parasite. While this is far from confirmation of the rumored Resident Evil 4 remake, that has not stopped gamers from speculating that Capcom may be looking to bring the game to current generation consoles and gaming systems.

Capcom has yet to confirm the existence of the Resident Evil 4 remake. However, with all the clues and leaks that have appeared, it seems to be inevitable that it will come at some point. The original Resident Evil 4 is one of the bestselling titles in the Resident Evil series. A well-made remake would be a treat for gamers and an almost failproof investment for Capcom.

Resident Evil 4 is available on GameCube, mobile, PC, PS2, PS3, PS4, PC, Switch, Wii, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
