How to Defeat the Verdugo in Resident Evil 4 Remake

The encounter with the Verdugo will take place in Chapter 10. After reaching the Underground Laboratory, the elevator needed to progress further will be without power. The only way to get it working again is to turn on the power source; this will lead Leon to the sewers. Along the way, sounds emanating from the vents foreshadow the arrival of the boss.

Resident Evil 4 Remake Sewers

Once Leon turns on the power switch, the Verdugo will drop from the ceiling and begin stalking the area to attack. Its fast speed and quick attacks make it almost impossible to parry its attacks or deal any significant damage to it, which is where the environment comes into play. Located around the tunnels are side panels that can trigger freezing nitrogen that will stop the Verdugo in its tracks.

Resident Evil 4 Remake Freeze Panels

To do so, make sure to activate the panel a few seconds before the Verdugo gets close, and once the gas has done its thing, unload all the strongest weapons in the arsenal against it. This means shotguns, grenades, and even the rocket launcher are all recommended when it is incapacitated. Unfortunately, it will likely require several cycles of freezing to beat the Verdugo, with each panel only capable of freezing the boss once.

Resident Evil 4 Remake Verdugo locked door

Following the first successful counterattack, head to the locked door and crank the wheel to open it to the next section. While it may appear safe, the Verdugo will start attacking from the vents above, so press the input for evade when the button prompt pops up. Eventually, it will drop down and resume the offensive, so find the next panel and repeat the process of blasting it with shotguns and grenades. Always make sure the beast is actively following Leon so as not to trigger the trap too early.

Resident Evil 4 Remake Frozen Verdugo

It should take a total of three freezes and plenty of firepower to bring down the Verdugo on normal difficulty. Once the monster is down for the count, it will be safe to explore the area again and get out on the elevator. At the same time, the precious Wave Goodbye, Right Hand trophy/achievement will be added to the collection.

Resident Evil 4 (2023) is available on PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
