Monstrous creatures and the shambling undead are part and parcel of the Capcom survival horror show, and that is no exception in the Resident Evil 4 remake. While Leon may be fighting off villagers infected with the Las Plagas parasite, there are occasions in which bigger threats appear, such as the blind Garrador.

Defeating the beast is already a tall task, but to get one of the elusive trophies/achievements in Resident Evil 4, players will have to defeat a Garrador using only knives. Thankfully, this guide will provide the edge in which to best the latest creature to stand in Leon's way.

How to Defeat the Garrador in Resident Evil 4 Remake Using Only Knives

As part of the story in Chapter 7, Leon will need to explore further into the castle and, more pertinently, its dungeon. With the way forward being locked, the only solution is to obtain the Dungeon Key, which can be looted from a body at the end of the dungeon. However, picking up the key will see Leon fall through the floor and into an encounter with the first Garrador in the game.

Unless there is a powerful rocket launcher in the inventory with plenty of ammo, the best way to approach this fight will ensure that Leon emerges unscathed, plus obtaining the Never Heard It Coming trophy/achievement. Due to its nature, the Garrador is actually blind and cannot see where players are; instead, they rely on hearing to determine their targets. As such, it is key to use stealth and take note of the surroundings.

While there are other occasions in which the enemy can be found, this is the best juncture to try for the achievement and trophy due to the lack of other enemies. Quickly move to the next room with wooden panelsonce Leon regains control and find a spot by the edges to hide. Stay crouched as the creature enters the room, and watch out for the hanging chains that can alert the Garrador.

Circle around the enemy as it makes its way around the room, and when the prompt to use the knife for a melee attack pops up, simply use the right input to deal heavy damage to the open wound that is in the Garrador's back. It is also vital that players quickly get out of the way and get some distance between them and the enemy, as it will flail around after the sneak attack.

Before it is safe to try another backstab, the Garrador will rush in a random direction and begin smashing things up, so keep at a distance and observe the beast. Once it has calmed down and begins moving around again, repeat the stealth maneuver to get close and backstab it once more. Repeat this process until it finally falls and claim the rewards. Do note that on higher difficulties, it will require more knife attacks for the Garrador to be downed.

Once the fight is over, crank the handle and exit the room to find Ashley waiting on the other side, ready to venture deeper into the darkness.

Resident Evil 4 (2023) is available on PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
