Resident Evil 4 Remake is among 2023's greatest games. Transforming the critically acclaimed original into a modern experience, the title accomplishes the impossible through marked gameplay improvements and original narrative elements. While no one could argue that the base game of Resident Evil 4 Remake is anything but exceptional, many fans were disappointed that the title launched without the full experience offered by the original. For nearly six months, fans have awaited word on whether Resident Evil 4 Remake will receive DLC to complete that experience, with the lack of news during this summer's showcases only fanning the flames of anticipation and frustration. Luckily for fans, the wait is now over, as this week's PlayStation Showcase has confirmed that Resident Evil 4 Remake is about to become the full package.

Resident Evil 4 Remake has seemingly usurped the benchmark status of its predecessor, Resident Evil 2 Remake, setting the bar for how some of gaming's best experiences can be modernized while recapturing the original's best features. From the enemies to the environments, Resident Evil 4 Remake exudes the B-movie splendor that endeared so many fans to the original Gamecube title. While the title offers many reasons for players to experience its campaign multiple times, it lacks a very important scenario found in the later releases of the original title. With this week's announcement, the scenario titled Separate Ways is now due to arrive in the very near future.

The Separate Ways Scenario is Coming to Resident Evil 4 Remake

One of the September 2023 PlayStation Showcase's biggest reveals was the long-awaited Separate Ways DLC for Resident Evil 4 Remake. This scenario follows Ada Wong in a series of chapters that parallel the main campaign. While the character appears throughout Leon Kennedy's adventure through Valdelobos, many of her motivations and objectives are a mystery to players. Ada plays a very important role in Resident Evil 4's narrative, impacting the lives of multiple lead characters and linking the title to the larger Resident Evil lore. In Resident Evil 4 Remake, it appears that her role will be more important than ever.

Resident Evil 4 Remake featured a fresh take on Ada Wong, in which the character receives an expanded ending. This ending seemingly set the stage for the future of the Resident Evil Remake series' unique narrative, making the omission of the Separate Ways scenario all the more frustrating for fans. Now that the scenario is due to arrive, fans may finally get a glimpse at the future of the Remake series. Given the narrative threads added to Resident Evil 4 Remake's final cutscenes, many fans expect Separate Ways to take the series in a slightly new direction, heading into a potential Resident Evil 5 Remake.

Resident Evil 4 Remake's Full Package Includes More Than Separate Ways

Resident Evil 4 Remake VR Mode

Resident Evil 4 Remake's Separate Ways scenario will mark the completion of the original remake, but the title is also set to receive another incredible addition on the very same day. Coinciding with the launch of Separate Ways, developer Capcom will release Resident Evil 4 Remake VR for PSVR2. This complete remake of the game's main campaign in modern VR will offer fans the chance to get up close and personal with Leon Kennedy's mission to rescue Ashley Graham and defeat the villainous Osmund Saddler. It's unclear whether Separate Ways will also be featured in the VR experience, but fans are hopeful that it will be included.

In addition to the Separate Ways scenario and Resident Evil 4 Remake VR, Resident Evil 4 Remake's Mercenaries mode is also due to receive some additions. Coinciding with the release of the other new features, Ada Wong and Albert Wesker will become playable characters in Mercenaries, offering even more ways to complete its time-based challenges. Resident Evil 4 Remake is already a Game of the Year contender, with just the base game setting a high bar. With the release of these major DLC offerings later this month, Resident Evil 4 Remake will finally offer longtime fans the full original experience, and more ways to experience it than ever before.

Resident Evil 4 Remake is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
