Quick time events, or QTEs, can make or break a game experience, and it looks as though the remake of Resident Evil 4 will not be including them, despite their notable presence in the original 2005 release. Easily considered to be one of the most anticipated games of 2023, and not just in the horror genre, this reimagining of the fourth entry in Capcom's iconic survival series is a chance for players to take on the Los Illuminados once more.

While this upcoming iteration of the game will largely keep what made the OG release so beloved, the Resident Evil 4 remake is also teasing some surprises, most likely to keep veterans on their toes. With the success of the RE2 and RE3 remakes, though the latter was slightly less well received, it stands to reason that RE4 is going to make quite an impact on this modern gaming era. Of course, the original still had its faults, and it looks as though one of its less popular aspects will not be making an appearance this time round.

According to the RE4 digital issue of Game Informer, the remake of Resident Evil 4 will not feature QTEs, with Capcom considering these to be rather "antiquated." Instead, these sections are getting switched up to better suit the current gaming zeitgeist, making them much more suitable for a horror game released for this generation. On top of this, the report also says the remake will have side quests for players to complete and will also feature breakable weapons. One of the side missions is said to involve delivering three snake corpses, but beyond that, there isn't much information about what Leon will be tasked with.

Resident Evil 4 Boulder QTE

While some games utilize quick time events effectively, including the original RE4, many would consider them to be a nuisance. For those who aren't aware, a QTE is a moment during a game when the player is prompted onscreen to quickly press a corresponding controller button. These can occur during moments when people typically don't need to interact with the game, such as during a cut scene. Failure to press the button quickly enough often results in the player failing or their character dying.

Given that RE4 is often regarded as one of the best entries in the Resident Evil franchise, it's not surprising that so many are looking forward to the remake. With the 2005 release changing the face of survival horror and switching up the formula that its predecessors laid before it, it will be interesting to see how a modern take on this influential survival game will go down.

Resident Evil 4 releases on March 24 for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
