To celebrate the upcoming release of the Resident Evil 4 remake, Capcom has launched a cute anime series following the adventures of Leon S. Kennedy and Ashley Graham. This series allows Resident Evil 4 fans to discover a new version of these two characters, far from the dark aesthetic of the video game.

Resident Evil 4 is one of the most anticipated survival horror games coming out in 2023, revisiting the story of Leon as he tries to save the US President's daughter, Ashley, who was captured by a mysterious cult based in a rural village in Spain. The original version of Resident Evil 4 came out in 2005 and was considered by many to be one of the best video games ever made, winning several Game of the Year awards. Its remake, scheduled to release on March 24, has already gathered raving reviews praising its moodier tone and enhanced controls.

In anticipation of the official release of the Resident Evil 4 remake, Capcom published the first episode of an animated series on its official YouTube channel titled Resident Evil 4 Anime PV Resident Evil Masterpiece Theater. The first episode of this series, "Leon and the Mysterious Village," showcases a cute version of the special agent as he is looking for the US President’s daughter. Leon asks various villagers about Ashley's whereabouts, only to find they all have red eyes and speak a language he doesn’t understand. One of the villagers eventually stabs his head with an axe, causing rainbows to come out, followed by a message stating that he died. As the main character of Resident Evil 4 then flies in the stars with rainbows and infected dogs running by his side, he mentions that dying is the story of his life.

While this first episode only lasts for less than a minute, Resident Evil 4 fans were happy to discover a cute anime version of their favorite survival horror game. In the comments of the video, players commended Capcom for publishing such an original and adorable story for a horror video game, stating they would happily watch a full series of the adventures of Leon and Ashley. Following the success of The Last of Us HBO series and the rising popularity of video game adaptations in other media, Resident Evil 4 fans hope Capcom will turn this series into a full-fledged anime.

Until Capcom releases more episodes, players can get their hands on the Chainsaw demo for the upcoming Resident Evil 4 remake. Some modders have already made this demo available on VR headsets, while others turned Leon into CJ from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and replaced the infamous Chainsaw Man with Shrek, which makes for a creepy fight as the green ogre tries to behead Leon with a blank look on his face.

Resident Evil 4 releases on March 24, 2023, on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
