From replacing Mr X with the goose from Untitled Goose Game to a mode that randomizes the placement of enemies and items around the entire of Racoon City Police Department, Resident Evil 2 had a fairly expansive and popular modding community. Not only did a lot of last year's best mods stem from the game, but they also created a much longer life for Resident Evil 2, with streamers and players continuing to enjoy the title long after its release.

It seems Resident Evil 3 is slowly but surely following in the footsteps of last year's incredibly popular remake, with the game's community implementing a number of major mods that change everything from the title's perspective to its hulking antagonist. The latter has been the source of a number of infinitely creative mods over the last month, the most recent of which adding a hilariously popular character ingrained in meme culture which players are undoubtedly going to love.

Shrek has finally made his way to Resident Evil 3 in the place of the ever-stalking Nemesis, with a new video from MrMarco1003 showing off the modder's side-splitting creation. The video itself begins by showing the scene of Jill in her apartment at the beginning of the game which, as players who've finished Resident Evil 3 will no doubt know, ends with Jill being brutally attacked by Nemesis. In this rendition of the events, Jill's wall caves in, and the swampy green mascot behind Dreamwork's most iconic animated franchise emerges from within.

The model used for Shrek is hilariously accurate, with the character looking practically ripped from his feature film adventures. Naturally, he moves exactly the same as Nemesis, however, there's something inherently more terrifying about Shrek relentlessly chasing Jill at a surprisingly intense speed. The footage shows several cutscenes with the animated ogre, as well as a minute or so of gameplay in which Shrek's true powers are shown off.

Alongside Shrek, a number of other significant characters have been modded to switch places with Nemesis, including Thomas the Tank Engine, Ultron, and even Mr X. Another modder even managed to replace all of RE3's with Nemesis, meaning only players who had truly mastered the title's set of systems would be able to complete it. With Resident Evil 3 only releasing early last month, it seems the modding community can only go up from here, with the title's set of systems feeling fairly open for expansive mods.

Resident Evil 3 is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
