'Tis the season for many ongoing games-as-a-service titles to release holiday-themed events. For example, Blizzard Entertainment's Overwatch launched its Winter Wonderland 2020 event, offering players access to a new game mode and unique character costumes. Some video game fans have been celebrating the holiday season in other ways, such as one turning Resident Evil 3's Nemesis into a terrifying Santa Claus.

The 2020 remake of Capcom's popular survival-horror game, first released in 1999, did not receive quite as much praise as last year's Resident Evil 2 remake, especially as many felt the returning Nemesis had less of an impact following RE2's Mr. X. However, it has still been popular among modding communities in particular, with one prominent mod even turning Jill Valentine into a Fall Guys bean wearing a S.T.A.R.S. beret.

This recent mod by creator Marcos RC has a decisively more festive bent, turning the monstrous Nemesis into a crude facsimile of jolly Saint Nicholas as the world knows him today. A video uploaded to YouTube Sunday shows off this version of Nemesis chasing Jill around Raccoon City, wearing a Santa hat and a red cloak that appears to be made out of shredded, plastic-y fabric. It's a cosmetic mod, but one that could liven up a Resident Evil 3 playthrough this holiday.

For anyone interested in playing with Nemesis Santa Claus, the mod can be downloaded from Marcos RC's Patreon page for anyone who pledges $5 a month. They have a number of other projects related to Resident Evil 3 and other games like Devil May Cry 5, though some of them are decisively not safe for work.

Marcos RC is not the only one creating mods that swap out character models for new stories to be told. Earlier this year, SilverEzredes uploaded a mod that turns Jill into Aerith from Square Enix's Final Fantasy 7 Remake, which is especially fun given both remakes of classic titles released in 2020, bringing villains like Nemesis and Sephiroth respectively back into the spotlight.

However, Resident Evil 3 has also benefitted from the jump to next-generation consoles this November. Capcom made it so the PS5 DualSense controller changes light colors during Resident Evil 3 as Jill takes damage, which is fun for those playing via backward compatibility. That being said, most mods will be locked to PC, so it's unlikely fans will see Nemesis Santa Claus on PS5 anytime soon.

Resident Evil 3 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with backward compatibility available for the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
