The remake of Resident Evil 3 was officially revealed just two weeks ago, and players have already seen numerous ways that the title will distinguish itself from the original release. The most immediately apparent of these ways are the significant changes that have been made to the characters' designs, but according to producers Masao Kawada and Peter J. Fabiano, Resident Evil 3 remake's gameplay approach will also set the forthcoming title apart from the 1999 release.

In a recent interview with Famitsu, Kawada and Fabiano spoke on Jill Valentine's design in Resident Evil 3 remake, indicating that her look has been revamped to fit with the title's more action-oriented focus. The same can be said about Carlos Oliveira in the RE3 remake, as his design has also been updated to be aligned with the game's interest in action, though the producers suggest that the personalities that were established for these characters in the original remain in tact.

For those that have played this year's acclaimed remake of Resident Evil 2, it will not be extremely surprising to hear that the RE3 remake will be putting action front-and-center. Indeed, the RE2 remake featured action-focused gameplay at a level beyond what was seen in the original release, and fans should expect the action in the RE3 remake to rival, if not exceed, that which is found in the remake of Resident Evil 2.

In part, this heightened emphasis on action is facilitated by an over-the-shoulder camera, which was used in the RE2 remake and is now confirmed for the Resident Evil 3 remake as well. The original releases of these titles featured fixed-perspective viewpoints, and while there is certainly action in those games, the more detached camera keeps them from feeling like most modern action games.

Players that prefer this older approach may be slightly disappointing to hear that Resident Evil 3 remake will be following the trend set by the new take on RE2. However, fans that want the experience to feel more like the original can at least outfit the characters with classic costumes, which are among the Resident Evil 3 remake pre-order bonuses, though they will still need to engage with the title's more action-oriented approach.

Resident Evil 3 launches on April 3, 2020 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
