Resident Evil 3 Remake has been out for over a year now, and the game received mixed reviews from fans of the long-running survival horror franchise. Many criticisms the remake received revolved around its differences from the original game, specifically cut content and the way Capcom designed Nemesis encounters.

Unlike the remake of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 never received major post-launch DLC. However, there are rumors that Capcom is working on a new version of the game called Resident Evil 3: Nemesis Edition. It is worth pointing out that most of the rumors revolving around Resident Evil 3 came from a now-deleted post on 4chan, and given no notable Resident Evil leakers corroborated these claims, players should take it with a grain of salt.

New Weapons, Enemies, and Cutscenes

According to rumors, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis Edition could see the return of some iconic scenes, weapons, and enemies from the original game, but the post did not provide details as to what would be returning. However, assuming the rumors are true, players could probably expect the return of some of the original games' weapons such as the STI Eagle 6.0, the Western Custom M47, and the Gatling Gun.

As far as enemies are concerned, the remake did include most of the original games' monsters. However, many were disappointed when the iconic Grave Digger and Crows did not appear. It is possible that both would be returning in the rumored Nemesis Edition, though the return of the Grave Digger means Capcom would also likely have to create a new boss fight, which sounds like a stretch.

Rumors also claim that Nemesis Edition would include new cutscenes. One of the remake's most prominent criticisms was Resident Evil 3's short run time - despite the original game also being short. However, if Capcom is reworking the game with new cutscenes, players should expect an expansion of the story too. It is possible that more storytelling would be included revolving around some of the game's supporting characters, such as Murphy, Tyrell, and Dario Rosso. Capcom could also have an expansion of Nikolai and Mikhail's story.

The Return of Old Areas

Another significant change rumored to be included in the Nemesis Edition is returning old areas from the original Resident Evil 3. Those who have played the remake know Capcom ditched iconic locations such as Raccoon City Park, the Graveyard, and the Dead Factory. However, it is worth noting that the Dead Factory was replaced by NEST 2, which makes more sense given how Umbrella facilities were represented in the Resident Evil 2 Remake. In addition, having the Graveyard back in Resident Evil 3 lines up with the rumored return of the Grave Digger, given this was where Jill Valentine battled the monster.

A Reworked Nemesis

Lastly, rumors about Resident Evil 3: Nemesis Edition also claim Capcom would be significant changing the programming of the game's chief villain, Nemesis. In the 2020 remake, many players were disappointed with how every encounter with Nemesis is scripted, especially compared to the mechanics that Capcom implemented with Resident Evil 2 Remake's Mr. X. Rumors claim the reworked Nemesis will randomly pop out in the game to pursue Jill Valentine, and use a flamethrower and rocket launcher outside of scripted battles. Additionally, it is also rumored that Nemesis will be able to follow players into most safe rooms, but will be slower to allow players the chance to survive every encounter.

The rumored Resident Evil 3: Nemesis Edition sounds promising and appears to address most issues players have with the 2020 remake. As for when Capcom is set to announce all the upcoming changes, it is rumored that a major announcement will be held at Tokyo Game Show 2021, which is scheduled for September 30. However, given that the source of these claims is questionable, players shouldn't expect much. Time will tell whether Resident Evil 3 is genuinely getting an enhanced Nemesis Edition.

Resident Evil 3 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
