The Resident Evil 3 remake, which re-tells the story of S.T.A.R.S. member Jill Valentine's desperate escape from Raccoon City, has recently released. The game has received primarily positive reviews, and if it turns out to be a sales success, it may pave the way to future Resident Evil remakes.

The original Resident Evil 3 came with a game mode called The Mercenaries - Operation: Mad Jackal, which put players in control of a variety of mercenaries racing to escape the game stage while putting down any zombies in their way. In lieu of Mercenaries, the Resident Evil 3 remake sees the introduction of Resident Evil Resistance, an asymmetrical multiplayer mode that pits survivors against an evil mastermind. While the game is free to anyone who purchases the Resident Evil 3 remake, how to access the game isn't entirely clear.

Separate Mode, Separate Game

Unlike The Mercenaries in games like Resident Evil 6, Resident Evil Resistance is an entirely separate game from Resident Evil 3. For this reason, players may need to find the game and download it separately.

PS4

Resident Evil Resistance is immediately added to a player's list of available games upon purchasing Resident Evil 3, but it may not start downloading immediately. Players should access their PS4 game library and check to see if it's located under 'All'. If it isn't, it hasn't downloaded yet, so navigate to the 'Purchased' section. The game should appear there and can then be downloaded to the console.

Xbox One

Like the PS4, the Xbox One may not automatically download the game. Players should head to the My Games and Apps menu. If it's already been installed, it will be listed under the installed tab. If it hasn't been installed yet, click over to the 'Ready to Install' section and manually start the download.

Steam/PC

Like its console counterparts, Resident Evil Resistance should automatically be added to a player's Steam library, but won't automatically download. Players simply need to scroll through their list until they find Resident Evil Resistance and tell Steam to install it by double-clicking or right-clicking on the game. As long as the player has already purchased Resident Evil 3, it should be free to download.

Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil Resistance are available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
