Capcom has released a brand-new update for the Resident Evil 2 remake four years after the game first released. With the original Resident Evil 2 often pointed to as one of the best games in Capcom's popular survival-horror franchise, it made sense that a lot of fans were asking for the game to get a proper remake like the first Resident Evil did. Unfortunately, Resident Evil fans had to wait over two decades to get their hands on the Resident Evil 2 remake.

The wait for the Resident Evil 2 remake was a long one, but many would agree that it was worth it. The Resident Evil 2 remake earned widespread critical acclaim at the time of its release, with praise for its graphics, polish, replay value, and the intimidating presence of the Mr. X tyrant. While the Resident Evil 2 remake was a complete experience out of the box, Capcom released updates for it post-launch to address bugs and in some cases even add new content.

The latest update for the Resident Evil 2 remake isn't all that exciting, but it does show Capcom's commitment to the game. The latest Resident Evil 2 remake update is specifically for the Steam and PS5/Xbox Series X versions of the game. On Steam, Latin American Spanish has been added as a display language, and Capcom also fixed some Resident Evil 2 remake achievements that weren't displaying properly in some languages. Other bugs and issues were also addressed. The patch notes are virtually identical for the PS5/Xbox Series X versions of the Resident Evil 2 remake, though those versions of the game didn't have the achievement language problems.

Capcom may be done releasing substantial new content for the Resident Evil 2 remake, but fans of the franchise should still have a lot to look forward to in the near future. While official plans haven't been announced, leaks have suggested that Capcom is preparing a big update for the Resident Evil 4 remake that would add the bonus Separate Ways campaign to the game. It's unclear at this time if such an update would be free, or if the plan is to add the Separate Ways campaign as paid DLC.

Resident Evil fans can also look forward to brand-new RE experiences on the horizon as well. Capcom has yet to announce the next Resident Evil game, but rumor has it that Resident Evil 9 is in active development.
