With limited resources and weapons available, players need to constantly be on the move to avoid getting overwhelmed by zombies and other creatures in the Resident Evil 2 remake. Finding new weapons is another key component, with many of them requiring players to solve a particular puzzle or reach a previously blocked off room. The Chemical Flamethrower, a powerful weapon to help take out the mutated hordes, is one of those weapons.

Before venturing out to find this weapon, players should be aware that it's only available in Leon's scenarios, and isn't accessible to Claire. Instead, she gets the Spark Shot, a weapon that fires an electrical current at enemies. For now, here's how Leon players can find the Chemical Flamethrower in Resident Evil 2.

Where to Find the Flamethrower

The Chemical Flamethrower first requires players to traverse the sewers. In the middle platform found between the treatment room and the cable car platform, there's a small area where a red handled tool can be found. Grab this item and then head back to the lower waterway section. This tool can now open the blue hatch at the bottom of the stairs.

In this new Bottom Waterway area, climb down the ladder and be prepared for enemies like G-Adults. Fight or run by them and keep to the left. Go up a small rocky slope, jump down under a sewer pipe when prompted, and then keep running all the way to the back of the room. Eventually, players will see a door with a red light above it.

Climb the short ledge, use the door, and head up the staircase to find the Supplies Storage Room. This room features a puzzle involving chess piece plugs. Grab the Queen Plug from the left side panel at the bottom of the stairs, and insert it into the electrical socket in the new area that opens.

Next, head back up the stairs to find the King Plug in the room at the top of the staircase. Unplug it and immediately jump down into the new area that opens up in the room. Watch out for a lingering zombie and head down this hallway to find the open King Plug socket.

The storage room opens and the chemical flamethrower can now be picked up to roast some undead.

How to Upgrade the Flamethrower

Unlike other weapons in the game, the Flamethrower only has one upgrade, but it's a very important one to go after. Known as the regulator, this upgrade causes the fuel to last longer than normal. With it equipped, players will be able to keep the fire burning for longer.

The regulator can be obtained inside of the NEST compound, specifically inside of the laboratory nap room. Starting at reception, head through to the cafeteria where a ladder can be found heading into a vent. Follow it up, and then turn right after heading through the door once out of the vent. Zombies will be waiting in this laboratory nap room, so take them out, then open the lockers on the left side to find the regulator.

Resident Evil 2 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
