With Capcom having recently confirmed Resident Evil 2's release date by way of a new reveal trailer, the publisher and developer decided offer fans a deeper dive on some of the details and features to come within the forthcoming game. With this being the case, the company booked a spot on PlayStation Live from E3 2018 for producers Yoshiaki Hirabayashi and Tsuyoshi Kanda to present a gameplay video with 12 minutes of footage that shows off how Capcom has made the survival-horror title both different and similar from the original source material.

As seen in the Resident Evil 2 gameplay demo below, fans can get a look at one of the game's main characters, Leon S. Kennedy, entering into the iconic Raccoon City Police Department foyer, with some of the details having been changed, as "not everything is exactly right where you remember it" in relation to the original. Leon is also shown getting into a few scrapes with zombies, with the living dead enemies forcing him to use classic items like First Aid Spray and Green Herbs for healing. In addition to the footage above, Capcom has confirmed that Resident Evil 2 will be focusing a lot of its attention on survival, with there being a scarce amount of resources and even the ability to find wood planks to board up windows and keep out zombies. Players will also be able to make certain ammunition like handgun bullets by finding items like gunpowder, but for the most part, once they run out of ammo, they will be out completely.

While Capcom's first gameplay demo for Resident Evil 2 features Leon, Capcom has promised that both he and Claire Redfield have their own campaigns, with the story hewing close to the original game's plot with a variety of different changes. All in all, Resident Evil 2 definitely appears to be a faithful recreation of certain thematic elements and stylistic choices from the first RE2, while also being a big departure from the original with such mechanics as an over-the-shoulder camera. So, it will be interesting to see what Capcom has to show next.

Resident Evil 2 is scheduled to launch on January 25, 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
