Remnant: From the Ashes is one of the surprising success stories of the past year. The game received relatively little attention prior to launch, but in part due to a wave of attention from Twitch streamers, is now a popular choice in the co-op multiplayer community — and Gunfire Games isn't done with Remnant development yet. During Saturday's PC Gaming Show, Gunfire Games revealed its second premium DLC for Remnant, Subject 2923, launching on August 20.

The focus of the Subject 2923 DLC will be to bring Remnant: From the Ashes' story to its natural conclusion. The DLC is a direct continuation of the base game's campaign and will explore the origin of The Dreamers and how they're connected to the Root. The remaining Root must be taken care of and the source expunged.

As far as specific content included in Subject 2923, Gunfire has provided a list. It'll include two unique new zones, including an abandoned military base and a snowy, mountainous landscape on the world Reisum. There will be new quests, bosses, weapons and modifications, trinkets, armor sets and skins, and so on. It sounds like a very substantial DLC in terms of story-based and progression-based content, and the Survival, Adventure, and Hardcore modes will be updated, too.

Subject 2923 will be the second DLC for Remnant since its launch in August 2019. First came the Swamps of Corsus DLC, which was well-received but perhaps not as substantial as some would have liked. Hopefully, Subject 2923 will scratch the itch that Remnant players want. Especially, because apparently Subject 2923 will be the game's final DLC.

The Subject 2923 DLC doesn't have a price point yet, unfortunately, but the Swamps of Corsus DLC cost just $9.99, so hopefully, Subject 2923 will stay at that price point too. Alternatively, for new players, there will be a new complete collecting launching alongside the DLC. This Remnant complete collection will include both DLCs and will be available on all platforms.

With Subject 2923 being announced as Remnant's final DLC, fans are likely to be asking what comes next for Gunfire Games. The studio was acquired by THQ Nordic in 2019 alongside the launch of Remnant after the studio's Darksiders 3 was surprisingly well-received. It's possible that a new Darksiders game could be in the works. The studio clearly has the potential to do great things.

Remnant: From the Ashes is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
