To survive in Remnant 2, players need to focus on becoming stronger, faster, and more powerful. While there are plenty of weapons, armor, and accessories that buff up a player’s strength, Remnant 2 has gone one step further and revamped Traits. These are special passive abilities designed to improve a player’s survivability.
When equipped, Traits provide unique buffs and bonuses to the nameless traveler. There is a wide variety of traits available in Remnant 2, which gives players the opportunity to fully customize their builds according to their preferred playstyles. Read on to find out how to unlock and level up traits.
How to Unlock Traits in Remnant 2
Traits in Remnant 2 are divided into three categories: Core, Archetype, and Regular. Combining all three categories, there are a total of 34 Traits players can unlock. However, due to the procedurally generated nature of the game, not all traits will be available for every player.
Core Traits
There are four fundamental Traits that are unlocked for all players when they kick off their journey in Remnant 2. These traits provide players with unique benefits that improve their chances of survival in the game. The four Core Traits are:
- Endurance – This trait increases a player’s Maximum Stamina and enhances their staying power in battles.
- Spirit – This trait boosts Mod Power Generation and allows a player to use their unique abilities more often.
- Vigor – This trait increases a player’s Maximum Health which means they can take more damage before they are defeated.
- Expertise – This unique trait reduces Skill Cooldowns, enabling players to use their skills more often.

How to Level Up Traits in Remnant 2
The mechanics of leveling up traits in Remnant 2 are somewhat similar to the original title, Remnant: From the Ashes. Like its predecessor, players need to spend Trait Points to level up traits. Each of the traits can be upgraded to Level 10 to provide more intense benefits. Players can earn Trait Points in the following ways:
- Killing Bosses
- Finding Tomes of Knowledge
- Taking down Aberrations
Unfortunately, the game limits how many Trait Points a player can have. Players can earn a maximum of 65 Trait Points in Remnant 2. Once they reach this point, they will no longer get any Trait Points by finding the Tomes of Knowledge or defeating bosses.
With only 65 Trait Points to spend, players will not be able to max out all of their Traits. As such, they need to be careful and wisely choose which traits to level up. However, this doesn’t apply to Archetype traits. Archetype traits automatically gain +1 when their respective Archetype levels up. In dual class, the Prime Archetype additionally assigns another 5 Trait Points to the Core Traits.
Once an Archetype Trait is maxed to level 10, players can use it even if they have equipped a different Archetype.
Players should choose traits that align with their individual playstyle and build. If they change their mind at any point, players can reallocate all their Trait Points by using the Orb of Undoing.
