Highlights

  • Head Armor in Remnant 2 is crucial for visual customization and changing the overall appearance of a character.
  • While some Head Armor may offer better defensive stats, the rankings of Helmet/Head Armor prioritize aesthetics and how cool they look.
  • The Crown of the Red Prince is the top-ranking Head Armor due to its high resistance to fire damage, making it popular for powerful fire-focused builds.

Head Armor in Remnant 2 is arguably the most important of all four Armor slots in the game, at least in terms of visuals. When it comes to the 'Fashion Souls' aspect of any Soulslike game, the helmets or Head Armor usually have the biggest impact in changing how different combinations look.

RELATED: Remnant 2: Things You Didn't Know You Could Do

Granted, different Armor Pieces in Remnant 2 offer different levels of Defense or Resistance, so there is still a mechanical reason to use some Head Armor over others. But, at least compared to other Armor Set rankings, Helmet/Head Armor rankings will take how 'cool' something looks into consideration a lot more.

First up is the Lodestone Crown, an over-the-top glowing crown found on a corpse in a hanging ship in the Lament area of Yaesha. There are a lot of different items to find in the Lament using the player's puzzle-solving skills, but the Lodestone Crown is probably one of the more difficult items to obtain since it involves randomly walking through a hologram wall.

In any case, once players do have the Crown and try it on, they'll notice that the gem in the middle of it gives off this shockingly bright blue light all around it. In fact, it somehow manages to give off more light than the flashlight does. So many players who actually put some time and effort into their character creation have been equipping the Lodestone crown and then disabling the 'Show Helmet' option so that the crown is invisible, but the light it gives off stays, which is a neat trick. Regardless, in terms of stats, this thing is really only good for resisting Blights, but visually it has a lot to offer.

Out of all four Armor slots, the Helmets seem to have the most unique pieces that don't have an entire Armor Set to go alongside them. And, one of the examples of this is the Navigator's Helm, found by killing a specific N'Erud Zombie underneath one of those mining machines in the Extraction Hub of N'Erud.

Not only is this helmet absolutely nailing that sci-fi aesthetic, but it's also required for players to unlock the facial recognition door in the Navigation Room, leading to the Plasma Cutter Long Gun. Statistically, it's pretty average, as it's Defense is a bit lacking.

Let's be honest here, the Bruiser Helmet looks silly. It looks like a number of things, such as the player wearing a bucket on their head, as if they're wearing a giant thimble like a helmet, or it just looks like an homage to the Gold Ardeo helmet from Bloodborne.

The funny thing is, however, that even though it looks silly, there's also this unexplainable 'stylish charm' to the Bruiser Helmet. And, the fact that it has a decent Resistance Spread and great Defense makes it an even easier sell for players to wear.

Anyone who relied on the Power Surge Armor Set bonus of the Labyrinth Set in Remnant: From the Ashes likely has some attachment to the Labyrinth Armor Set overall. There aren't many Armor Sets in video games as a whole that look as uniquely 'out of this world' as the Labyrinth Set does, and the Helm plays a large part in creating that look.

In terms of its stats, the Labyrinth Helm gives some great Fire and Shock Resistance, which are two of the most commonly occurring elements players will be facing across their adventures in Remnant 2.

Given the amount of work players have to put into getting the Red Widow Set, it's only expected that the Set itself would look amazing. And thankfully, it meets those expectations, both from a visual and mechanical standpoint. It's not amazing in the Defenses or Resistances it gives by any definition, but it's pretty decent.

The Red Widow Headdress, in particular, is what really separates this Armor from all the rest, and it seems to be the Helmet almost every Summoner player is using to make their character really 'look' like the classic image of someone who messes around with taboo arts such as summoning Root monstrocities.

There's nothing in either Remnant: From the Ashes, Remnant 2, or even Chronos: Before the Ashes that manages to nail the look of 'alien armor' more than the Void Set does. Fans of the lore from R: FtA will recognize that this set is obviously either an homage to the Anointed from Rhom or is actually just a suit of Anointed Armor from that Realm.

RELATED: Remnant 2: Small Fixes The Game Needs

In any case, the Void Skull is another Helmet that gives an absurd amount of Defense, and it has a good Resistance spread as well. The only downside of this giant grey helmet is that it really doesn't blend with any other Armor outside of the Void set.

Instead of starting out talking about the visual aspects of this next helmet, let's go over the statistics first. Compared to the Void Helm, the Fae Royal Headcover is just a small step above it. Both

Helmets offer 15 defense for 8 points of Weight, but the Fae Royal Headcover does offer just a bit more as far as Resistance is concerned since it has 2 points of Bleed Resist and 2 points in Blight Resist.

Additionally, this Headcover is also one of the best-looking Helmets in the game, and really nails making the player look like they're part of the magical (and disturbed) Fae race when wearing it.

Now technically, the Technician Helmet is a smidge worse than the Fae Royal Headcover in terms of stats, as it has slightly less Defense and Resistance. But, it's also a smidge above the Void Skull, as it gives one extra bit of Resistance. So, why isn't it sitting between them in these rankings?

Well, where the Technician manages to surpass both Head Armors is in the visual department, as this helmet works well on just about every single Armor Combination thanks to its all-black color scheme and the skin-tight properties of the actual helmet itself.

Finally, an Armor ranking that doesn't have the Leto Armor at the very top, though the MK I and MK II still managed to get second place. Both of these helmets give an absurd amount of Defense compared to every other option, but they're also by far the heaviest, and completely overwhelm the player's Encumbrance level.

That said, the Leto MK II Helmet, in particular, is statistically just better than the MK I, and it works well visually with more Armor combinations as well. With the Bright Steel Ring equipped, there's almost no reason why players should ever switch off of the Leto Sets if they can help it.

And, for the top ranking, of course, it's the Crown of the Red Prince. Not only is obtaining this Crown an incredibly involved process (finishing the Red Prince with the Assassin's Dagger Melee Weapon), but it's also so 'extra' in terms of the visuals of the helmet.

The main reason the Crown is number one in the rankings is simple, this thing gives an absurd 25 Resistance to Fire damage, making the player essentially immune to Fire damage overall. This is exactly why so many players are using it, as it helps make the 'meta' Firestorm build that much more overpowered. However, the Crown is abysmal in every other category of Resistance, so that's something worth keeping in mind while wearing it.

Remnant 2 is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
