Highlights

  • Remnant 2 is receiving positive reviews and is expected to improve upon its predecessor, offering an enhanced gaming experience.
  • The game temporarily reached the top of the Steam bestseller list, surpassing popular titles like Baldur's Gate 3.

Remnant 2 seems to be doing quite well for itself, according to sales information available before its imminent release. Though the Soulslike third-person shooter riffs on all the same notes that the original Remnant: From the Ashes did, it aims to do virtually everything better, and those who've been enjoying early access to the game claim that the developer is definitely onto something here.

As the majority of Remnant 2 reviews have pointed out, Gunfire Games has successfully expanded upon the foundations laid by the game's predecessor, which is precisely what many fans had been hoping to hear. From the looks of it, the developer's attempts at doing the same thing, but better, have already borne fruit, with the game reaching the very top of one of the most notable PC game sales charts on the market.

Forbes' Paul Tassi was quick to spot that Remnant 2 was sitting at the very top of the Steam bestseller list, which means it overtook heavy hitters such as Baldur's Gate 3 and even CSGO, even if only for a short while. While the fact that the owners of the Ultimate edition of the game got early access certainly plays a role in Remnant 2's success, it's also worth pointing out that the game is not a full-priced AAA release, meaning it's cheaper than most other flagship releases. However, it also seems that the game is absolutely brimming with secrets, making the discovery process a huge part of the appeal, with members of the community having already discovered over half a dozen secret unlockable character classes.

This makes it easy to see why some feel that Remnant 2 could be Destiny 2 players' new home, as the Destiny community are huge fans of dedicated PvE experiences with a secretive slant. Now that Remnant 2's zeitgeist is becoming apparent, it's easy to see why so many would be eager to jump into the experience early and help the community discover as much as possible.

It certainly helps that Remnant 2 has a huge amount of secret content scattered throughout its randomly generated campaigns. According to Ben Cureton, the principal designer working on Remnant 2, even players with hundreds of hours in the game haven't had the chance to see everything it offers. Excited players jumping into the game early via its Ultimate edition would certainly help propel it to the top of Steam's list of bestselling titles.

Sadly, it's not all milk and honey. Remnant 2 may launch without cross-play, for one, which could be a big mark against the co-op shooter on its release date. Yet, odds are good that Gunfire Games will try to figure this out as soon as possible to keep its community going on all platforms at once, and if the game's early performance is anything to go by, Remnant 2 should still end up a resounding success for the studio.

Remnant 2 releases on July 25 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
