The newly released Remnant 2 was able to sell over a million copies in a single week. Remnant 2 improves the gameplay of its predecessor in several ways, and this seems to have reflected in the popularity of the new title, which even surprised Gearbox Publishing expectations with its sales.

Remnant 2 is a third-person shooter inspired by Soulslike games that serves as the sequel to Remnant: From the Ashes. By offering more build variety, complex boss fights, new weapons, and more, the game has been hailed by critics as an improvement over its predecessor. It was already clear that the new game would be successful when Remnant 2 became a Steam bestseller before its launch.

According to the president of Gearbox Publishing, Yoon Im, the game exceeded all the expectations of the team, becoming a commercial and critical hit.

Remnant 2 differs from Remnant: From the Ashes in several ways. While both games have a post-apocalyptic Earth as the setting, most of the mechanics in the sequel are greatly refined. For instance, Remnant 2 focuses on quantity over quality with boss fights, having fewer of them, but with more emphasis on making these fights more unique. The new Archetype system also offers more build variety, being considered an improvement over Remnant: From the Ashes’ Trait system, which has also been overhauled in the sequel. Procedural generation in Remnant 2, however, remains an important part of the game.

At the moment, developer Gunfire Games is likely to focus on continuing to work on Remnant 2, as the devs have already promised long-term support for the game. However, it’s possible to speculate on the next moves of the company, with an obvious candidate for the next game being a sequel to Chronos: Before The Ashes. The title was set loosely in the same universe as the Remnant games, so it would probably interest several gamers who are currently playing Remnant 2.

Remnant 2 is now available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
