Highlights

  • The Hunter class in Remnant 2 is designed for players who prefer long-range combat and want to avoid being overwhelmed by enemies.
  • The Hunter's skills and perks enhance Weakspot Damage and Burst Damage, making it effective for targeting enemy weaknesses and wiping them out from a distance.
  • Although playing as a Hunter in single-player can be difficult without utilizing its strengths, careful positioning and calculated advancement can allow players to avoid close-range encounters and exploit enemy weaknesses.

Whether playing solo or as part of a squad, anyone who has spent a significant amount of time in Remnant 2 so far during its early launch window can attest to the ability of certain enemy types to quickly overwhelm the player. Although the game gives players more options for melee attacking in the sequel, combat in Remnant 2 is still arguably focused around ranged options. Each class starts with both a handgun and a long gun for ranged attacks, but one class in particular is designed around use of its long gun. If players are looking to be effective while dealing damage from a safe distance, look no further than the Hunter class.

The Hunter is the only returning class from Remnant: From The Ashes, and spending some time with the archetype in the game's early hours makes it apparent as to why. With an excellent starting skill that marks all nearby enemies and an extremely powerful long gun, the Hunter just might be the best first choice for anyone that doesn't like the idea of getting swarmed by a mob of eldritch horrors. After all, there's no chance for enemies to overwhelm the player when they've been safely dispatched from afar.

Remnant 2: Hunter Perks and Skills

Remnant 2 - Hunter In Character Class Selection

Remnant 2 Hunter Perks

  • Deadeye: Damage Perk: Gain 4% Ranged Damage and 1.5% Weakspot Damage.
  • Return to Sender: Team Perk: Kills due to Weakspot Damage and Critical Hits increase Ammo drops by 25%.
  • Urgency: Utility Perk: Firearms gain 15% Reload Speed after kills. Lasts for 3 seconds.
  • Intuition: Relic Perk: Using a Relic extends the duration of any active Hunter skill by 5 seconds. Effect degrades with each subsequent use.
  • Dead to Rights: Prime Perk: Dealing 65 base Ranged Weakspot Damage extends the duration of active Hunter Skills by 2.5 seconds. Can extend the timer beyond its initial duration with additional Ranged Weakspot Damage.

Remnant 2 Hunter Skills

  • Hunter's Mark: Increases the Hunter's spatial awareness by casting an Aura that automatically applies Mark to all enemies within 35 meters. While senses are heightened, the Hunter also gains 15% increased Ranged and Melee Damage. Lasts for 25 seconds.
  • Hunter's Focus: Heightens the Hunter's senses, which causes aiming at an enemy for 0.01 seconds to apply Mark. Continuously aiming down sights (ADS) uninterrupted and without shooting for 1 second causes the Hunter to enter a Focused state. Focused reduces Weapon Spread, Recoil, and Sway by 75% and grants 25% Ranged and Ranged Weakspot Damage, as well as an additional 10% Ranged Critical Chance.
  • Hunter's Shroud: Hunter becomes Shrouded, reducing enemy awareness and making them harder to hit while moving. Attacking or activating a Mod or Skill will instantly exit Shroud. Exiting Shroud applies Mark to all enemies within 10 meters and grants Ambush for 2 seconds. Ambush increases Ranged and Melee Damage by 50%.

While the fact that the Hunter is the only returning class archetype from Remnant 2's predecessor might suggest that the class is one of the best in available at the start of the game, it should be noted that playing as a Hunter in single-player can be quite difficult if players don't focus on utilizing the class for its strengths. Because the Hunter is a ranged specialist, it's quite possible to get overwhelmed and have fewer options for survivability at close range. Getting swarmed by a mob as a Hunter and letting panic set in is a surefire way to see the game over screen.

Thankfully, the Hunter's skills and perks provide bonuses to Weakspot Damage and Burst Damage, along with stacks that make all the other skills and perks in use more effective thanks to various bonuses. With careful positioning, calculated advancement into encounters, and careful ADS to target enemy weak spots, players using the Hunter can avoid ever needing to come within 10 meters of an enemy before it's been completely wiped. Even if playing Remnant 2 solo, the Hunter is one of the most powerful classes for boss and elite enemy fights thanks to its ability to exploit enemy weaknesses.

Remnant 2 releases on July 25 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
