Arguably the most important decision for all players is which Archetype they choose to control as they progress through the narrative of Remnant 2. Each class has its own weapons, perks, abilities, and skills, with the most prevalent of these being the Archetype's Prime Perk. There are still a number of secret Archetypes yet to be discovered, however, this is how each Archetype's special skill stacks up against the rest.

8 Lucky - Explorer

remnant 2 faelin or faerin

One of the secret Archetypes that players can unlock as they progress through the game, the Explorer is perhaps one of the less impressive character choices in the game due to its lack of offensive or defensive focus. Much of this Archetype's makeup is centered around its ability to find rare objects far easier than others, but it does not necessarily make up for its shortcomings in crucial survival skills.

The Explorer's Prime Perk, Lucky, plays heavily into its ability to obtain rarer items at a higher rate. With this perk, enemies will drop more valuable resources when killed by this Archetype. For those on the hunt for the best equipment and loadouts for their character, the Explorer can provide the tools and means of doing that better than any other class.

7 Spirited - Alchemist

The Alchemist in Remnant 2's character creator

The Alchemist is a great support Archetype that serves to bolster the abilities and skills of its companions. It is a great option for co-op play and can be unlocked during a player's campaign. Using an array of potions and concoctions, this arcane mixologist can use a variety of different elixirs to enhance particular traits in themselves or those around them.

The Alchemist's Prime Perk, Spirited, improves the conditions that this Archetype can put its party under. With this perk active, players can string together multiple active concoctions, enabling them to improve certain facets of the game simultaneously and gain the upper hand over their foes.

6 Ruthless - Summoner

The Summoner class in Remnant 2's character creator

The Summoner is a unique Archetype as it is the only one capable of recruiting and controlling what would otherwise be considered hostile. Using its abilities, the Summoner can bring forth its own troupe of minions to fight alongside them until they perish. Using a somewhat barbaric technique, this Archetype can make use of its Prime Perk to gain the upper hand in battle.

The Summoner's Prime Perk, Ruthless, grants a bonus to the efficiency and damage capacity of the Archetype's minions by dealing damage to them. Much like cracking a whip on an animal, players can use any offensive technique against their subjects to motivate them to be even more devastating in the face of the many threats within Remnant 2's worlds.

5 Dead To Rights - Hunter

The Hunter is the perfect Archetype for players who favor a combat experience that relies on long-range attacks and utilizing stealth to their advantage. The Archetype's unique skills play on this, allowing it the ability to mark enemies nearby or even become very difficult to detect by enemies. With these special skills, the Hunter has the opportunity to dispatch foes before they even know what hit them.

The Hunter's Prime Perk, Dead To Rights, enhances the Archetype's unique skills by extending their duration after dealing weakspot damage. This perk rewards players for their proficiency with their weapon by enabling them to capitalize on the character's abilities for even longer.

4 Loaded - Gunslinger

Ammunition is tough to come by in Remnant 2 and at times is even tougher to maintain, which is a key area that the Gunslinger Archetype excels at. Not only is this Western-inspired character class excellent at dealing out raw damage at a blistering fire rate, but it is also the best at getting the most bang for its buck out of its supply of bullets.

When engrossed in a tough battle and both weapons need to be reloaded, which can be far too time-consuming and potentially fatal if players cannot time it right, the Gunslinger shines. Using its Prime Perk, Loaded, this character will instantly reload its weapons whenever one of its Archetype skills is activated. To sweeten the deal, the Gunslinger will have infinite reserve ammo for a very limited time, enabling it to mercilessly fire with reckless intent at any threats.

3 Regenerator - Medic

Health is a precious resource in any game, but those who don't manage it in Remnant 2 will feel the consequences more than most other titles out there. The game is full of powerful enemies that will deplete a player's health sooner than it can be recovered at times, which spells doom for their characters and a heartbreaking respawn for their owners.

Out of all the Archetypes in Remnant 2, the Medic, naturally, performs the best when it comes to health management. With its Prime Perk, Regenerator, players will be rewarded for their efforts to keep themselves and their companions alive by receiving additional relic charges. With these relic charges, players will be able to use their chosen relic more times without needing to rest at a checkpoint or otherwise restock.

2 Bonded - Handler

Remnant 2 - Handler Petting The Dog

The Handler will be one of the most popular Archetypes in Remnant 2 for a number of reasons, but most notably the ability for the player to overcome all the challenges the game presents alongside a furry best friend. And it is with this canine companion that the Handler's incredibly useful Prime Perk, Bonded, lays its foundations.

The Bonded perk offers players a second chance when their luck runs out on the battlefield. When a player is downed, there is the opportunity for their dog to hand them a revival relic to give them a chance to take revenge on those who caused their downfall. The perk is limited to the availability of the dog and a suitable relic, but being given a second chance on top of always having an animal comrade along the journey makes this a tough Archetype to pass up.

1 Die Hard - Challenger

remnant-2_challenger-archetype

The Challenger is the hardened warrior of all the Archetypes in Remnant 2, choosing to meet its foes head-on in a violent melee exchange. This Archetype is the most durable of the character options in the game, proving it can take as much punishment as it can deliver.

Much like the Handler Archetype, the Challenger also has a perk that gives it a second chance on the battlefield. With the Die Hard Prime Perk, the Challenger brushes off the idea of dying and bounces back up to unleash even more ruthless offensive sequences. This ranks marginally higher than its Archetypal counterpart on account of not relying on anyone else to guarantee their resurrection.

Remnant 2 is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
