Highlights

  • Remnant 2 will have an enormous amount of content that even after 400+ hours of gameplay, players haven't seen or obtained everything it has to offer.
  • The game will differentiate itself from its predecessor by incorporating procedural generation not only in map layouts and enemy placements, but also in enemy types, level aesthetics, bosses, NPCs, and even the plot and side-story elements.
  • Remnant 2 is designed to be exploration-oriented and packed with secrets, with a streamlined process for unlocking achievements. The immersive horror-tinged world is intended to remain consistently interesting, encouraging players to fully explore and discover all the game has to offer.

According to its own principal designer, Remnant 2 will contain so much content that one cannot view it all even over 400 hours in. Combine this with the confirmation of DLC, thanks to the Ultimate Edition, and it seems players will have a lot to do in this game.

First announced late last year, Remnant 2 is rapidly is set to continue the third-person shooter and action RPG hybrid gameplay that its predecessor was well received for. It is set to distinguish itself from what came before by upping the procedural generation. Whereas Remnant: From the Ashes only applied such a feature to its map layouts and enemy placements, Remnant 2 will also apply it to its enemy types, level aesthetics, bosses, NPCs, and even the plot and side-story elements that appear mid-gameplay.

As tweeted out by Remnant 2's principal designer, Ben Cureton, the game will be very exploration oriented and packed with secrets. Like most if not all Xbox and PlayStation games, this one will come with plenty of achievements to hunt down, but Cureton explains that the process of unlocking them is streamlined enough to where it won't be too tedious. However, he also explained that Remnant 2's immersive horror-tinged world was designed to remain consistently interesting to fully explore so that players won't just put the game down once they have all the achievements under their belts. He did not specify whether there will be a true reward for fully exploring everything, or if the secrets will be their own reward.

Commenters appeared excited by this news. In addition to general hype, several early access players vouched for what Cureton said. Some expressed relief at the "player-friendly" approach to achievements, as they didn't want to have to commit to one game for too long, and a few stated that they hadn't even fully explored the first game yet. Combine its immense size with the vastly improved combat system and new classes to play with, and it's pretty clear there's a lot to be excited for with Remnant 2.

Remnant 2 will launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S on July 25, 2023.
