Remedy Entertainment is one of the most beloved developers in modern gaming, however, the studio has never been shy when it comes to voicing its rocky history with publishers. Known for its weird, Lynchian style of storytelling, Remedy's games are distinct among modern AAA games for their fascinating, surreal worlds and strange characters. As a result, the studio has struggled in the past to work with publishers wishing to make its games marketable to a wider audience. This makes the upcoming game the studio is working on with Epic Games even more exciting, as new details have emerged regarding the project.

Earlier this year, Epic Games announced that it would be entering multiplatform publishing agreements with Remedy Entertainment (Control, Alan Wake) gen DESIGN (The Last Guardian,) and PlayDead (Limbo, Inside) claiming that Epic, as a publisher, would strive to have the most developer-friendly terms in the games industry. These include allowing the studios to retain 100% of the project's intellectual property rights, as well as full creative control over their work. Epic will also cover up to 100% of the project's funding, as well as share 50% of the game's profits with the developer after the project's costs have been recouped.

Now, Remedy has provided slightly more insight into the project following this initial announcement in March. During its first ever Capital Markets Day presentation for investors and analysts, Remedy Entertainment CEO Sam Lake revealed that the studio's upcoming project with Epic Games is in development for both consoles and PC. He also revealed that the game will take place in the Remedy Connected Universe, in which Control and Alan Wake (and possibly Quantum Break) take place. Lake also revealed that Epic is providing "significant market investment" into the project. He also reiterated that the project is fully owned by Remedy Entertainment, with full funding from Epic Games.

Longtime fans of Remedy Entertainment can breathe a collective sigh of relief now, as it seems like the studio's next project will not undergo significant publisher tampering as Quantum Break did, or greedy release practices as Control has with its Ultimate Edition. This project is being funded by Epic with the belief in Remedy as a studio and could possible go on to become Remedy's most successful game yet, even with news that Control has surpassed 2 million copies sold.

Remedy Entertainment is a Finnish game developer founded in 1995. While the studio found success with its first release, Death Rally for PC, it wasn't until 2001's Max Payne that the studio found major success, going on to sell million of copies and finding a publisher in Rockstar Games. While Rockstar took over the series following its second instalment, Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne, Remedy signed an agreement with Microsoft to develop the Twin Peaks-inspired Xbox 360 exclusive Alan Wake. After following Alan Wake up with a spin-off title, Alan Wake's American Nightmare, the studio went on to develop the Xbox One exclusive Quantum Break, which caused the studio to butt heads with Microsoft multiple times in development. This caused Remedy to return in 2019 with Control published by 505 Games, one of the developer's most successful titles yet. The studio is also developing the campaign for Smilegate's CrossfireX, its first first-person shooter title.
