Redfall has received a small hotfix which seeks to bring improvements to world difficulty and the co-op experience. A first for Bethesda's beloved Arkane studio, which was previously responsible for games like Dishonored and Prey, Redfall is an open world co-op enabled looter shooter which launched in mid-2023 to poor reception. The title was plagued with a myriad of bugs, performance issues, and even underwhelming design elements, and was a blow to Xbox's otherwise solid first-party lineup for the year.

Since launch, Redfall has seen three major updates, as Arkane has expressed its commitment to continue fixing and supporting its vampire-slaying shooter. Previous updates have made strides in improving the game's stability and accessibility, and Arkane has even added stealth takedowns, which were strangely absent from Redfall at launch. Additionally, the long-awaited 60 FPS performance mode was added for Xbox Series X and S players in October, a missing feature that caused an uproar among fans prior to Redfall's release. Arkane has even begun to roll out new content in the form of a UV-powered sniper rifle called The Basilisk as part of its most recent major update.

Arkane's Upcoming Marvel's Blade Game Could Redeem It After Redfall

Coming completely out of nowhere, Marvel's Blade has just been announced, and it could bring the redemption that Arkane really needs after Redfall.

With Redfall now seeming to have improved since its disappointing launch, Arkane is rolling out another small hotfix. On Twitter, Bethesda Support detailed the small update, highlighting four improvements. Two of these fixes involve co-op. One of them alleviates a painful issue that has seen players lose level progress or gear after disconnecting, and the other makes the petrification of vampires more reliable in co-op. Furthermore, the world difficulty has been adjusted to remain closer to the level of the player throughout the game. Additionally, a key piece of story dialogue involving a character named Amelia has been fixed, as it wasn't audible in New Game Plus.

It seems that Redfall's Amelia memorial dialogue is still not triggering in New Game Plus, as players under Bethesda Support's tweet are reporting that they still can't hear it even after downloading the new hotfix. Perhaps Arkane will provide an update on the bug in the coming days, or fully address it whenever the next hotfix or update rolls out. Redfall players are still on the lookout for the game's confirmed post-launch DLC, as some fans under the tweet inquired about new content. Arkane has previously confirmed that two new playable characters are set to come to Redfall as DLC, but no official details have been revealed as of yet.

Now that Arkane has spent the better part of a year updating and improving Redfall, it seems like the studio may be ready to begin rolling out its planned DLC soon. Whether the DLC will involve a Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty-caliber relaunch of sorts or simply new weapons and characters remains to be seen, but fans should be able to expect new content for Redfall sometime this year.

Redfall January 2024 Hotfix Patch Notes:

  • Fixed instances where gear or level progress is lost on session disconnect in co-op
  • World difficulty maintains closer consistency with player level
  • Petrification of vampires is more consistent in co-op
  • Amelia’s Memorial Eulogy dialog will trigger in New Game+
