A new trailer that reveals new details about the story and origins of the eponymous town has arrived for Redfall. This follows a trailer that featured an overview of Redfall gameplay while also offering a few more details about the game world. There have been numerous trailers for the upcoming co-op shooter, but until now none have revealed details about how exactly the town became a vampire-infested hellscape.

Bethesda announced in May 2022 that it was delaying the release of Redfall, and that it would be released in the first half of 2023. Towards the end of 2022 there were some rumors that the game would be delayed again, but without a clear-cut release date it seems the developer was able to avoid giving fans any disappointing news. Redfall finally got a release date at the Xbox and Bethesda Developer Direct event that took place on January 25, 2023.

The Redfall story trailer reveals that the titular town was once a picturesque American town that played host to some sinister experiments that eventually led to it becoming overrun by monstrous vampires. According to the trailer, an organization called Aevum Therapeutics was behind these experiments with the goal of attaining immortality through science. It started with townsfolk mysteriously disappearing, and before long the entire town was swallowed up in a frenzy of vampirism and cult activity. Powerful vampires emerged, some of which are shown off in the trailer.

It will be interesting to see exactly how the story unfolds when Redfall releases in May and how the grisly experiments carried out by Aevum eventually led to the nightmarish situation the protagonists find themselves in. The unique and powerful vampires featured in the story trailer will likely feature as climactic boss fights. The developers of Redfall have cited the Far Cry series as one source of inspiration, so fans could perhaps look to those games for an idea of how these encounters might play out.

One of the vampires named in the trailer, The Black Sun, seems tied to the apocalyptic conditions that have gripped the town of Redfall. At this time it is unknown whether defeating these unique vampires will invoke any changes in the world, but it is clear that these figures are worshiped as gods. The new story trailer doesn't provide any further details about how players will go about locating and challenging these named vampires, but it does offer a couple sneak peeks at the encounters. With this trailer, it's safe to say that Redfall remains one of the most anticipated shooters of 2023.

Redfall launches May 2, 2023, for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
