2023 is stacked with big-name releases, with a fair few coming from both the PlayStation and Xbox sides of the fence. While PlayStation certainly has the most anticipated exclusives, with titles like Final Fantasy 16 and Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Xbox is set to have a solid showing with games like Forza Motorsport and Arkane's Redfall. But Redfall isn't the only four-player co-op adventure game releasing this year.

Rocksteady is set to make its return to the DC universe this year with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, a game that's been hotly anticipated since its 2020 announcement. While Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and Redfall seem like completely different experiences on the surface, they actually share quite a few similarities, and that could lead to some interesting competition between the two.

Redfall and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Share Some Interesting Similarities

The biggest similarity between Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and Redfall is that both games are co-op multiplayer experiences first and foremost. While both Redfall and Suicide Squad's marketing have made it clear that each game can be enjoyed by a solo player, it's clear that these games have been designed with co-op in mind, and each game's mechanics will likely be heavily reliant on the presence of several players joining in on the action. From what fans have seen so far from each game, it also seems like the story will involve the whole cast of playable characters, so by playing solo, fans may feel a little disconnected from those they're not playing as.

Both Redfall and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League are set to have four playable characters, each with their own unique set of abilities and weapons. Suicide Squad lets players take control of some of DC's most memorable foes, including Harley Quinn, King Shark, Deadshot, and Captain Boomerang. Each character has their own method of traversal, such as a grapple hook or jetpack, and has their own range of weapons and powers, from wrist-mounted machine guns to a supernatural trick boomerang. Redfall's four playable heroes offer even more supernatural, bombastic weaponry, with its vampire survivors being able to use magical staffs, makeshift weapons, ethereal snipers, and even telekinesis.

While each team's abilities differ quite a bit, both games are still four-player co-op adventure games, and fans may need to make a difficult decision on which title to buy. According to a very recent leak, Redfall may be targeting a May 2, 2023, release date. If this is true, then it'll be going almost toe-to-toe with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which is currently set to release on May 26, 2023. While both games' release dates could be shifted around, it's likely that both titles will be in direct competition with one another, both fighting for the consumer's limited cash.

The potential battle between Suicide Squad and Redfall may actually be a pretty tough one, with no clear victor being immediately obvious right now. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League obviously has a lot of brand recognition right out of the gate, and anticipation for it is extremely high, with fans being desperate to see what the Batman: Arkham developer has been working on all this time. However, Redfall is coming from Arkane, a studio that has gradually gained the trust of the industry by consistently releasing high-quality experiences. To top it off, Redfall is also coming to Xbox Game Pass on day one, making the battle between the games less about which one is going to get the player's money and more about which one is going to get the player's time.

Redfall releases in 2023 for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
