Rockstar Games has shared the second official trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2, perhaps the most anticipated release of 2018. Running just short of ninety seconds, the trailer focuses on in-engine cinematic cutscene footage. While certain scenes may be recorded from gameplay, that's not the intention of the trailer. Instead, excited fans get introduced to the game's story and what's likely to be Red Dead Redemption 2's protagonist.

While Rockstar doesn't provide much information regarding the events of the trailer, it does confirm Red Dead Redemption 2's protagonist (or at least one of the game's protagonists), Mr. Arthur Morgan. Morgan is quite clearly not a kind man. He's wanted, works outside the law, threatens children, and robs banks and trains without remorse. Much like the first Red Dead Redemption, the violence of Morgan stands in contrast to the serene and beautiful environments in which the game takes place.

The big surprise of the trailer, however, is the introduction of Dutch. Dutch is Morgan's boss, leader of the van der Linde gang, but more importantly, Dutch is a returning character from the original Red Dead Redemption. In Red Dead Redemption 2, Dutch looks to be much younger, revealing that the sequel may be a prequel, or at the very least it might feature flashback sequences. Morgan, along with Abigail Marston who is also featured in the trailer, is part of Dutch's "Old Gang." And while Red Dead Redemptionprotagonist John Marston isn't shown, his inclusion in the game seems inevitable.

It has been almost a full year since Red Dead Redemption 2 was first revealed. Since then, Rockstar has shared very little about the game, mostly due to the its delay from a late 2017 launch to spring 2018. The release of a new trailer doesn't necessarily imply that Rockstar will open the floodgates and start sharing information aplenty, but it is a good sign of things to come.

Red Dead Redemption fans have spent the past year re-watching a minute-long trailer with just a single line of dialogue. Now they have another 90 seconds of footage filled with conversation, action sequences, and backstory. Even if Rockstar goes quiet for another year, those excited for Red Dead Redemption 2 will have plenty of trailer footage to sate their growing excitement.

Red Dead Redemption 2 releases in Spring 2018 for the PS4 and Xbox One.
