After years of waiting, Rockstar Games officially announces Red Dead Redemption 2, promising an "epic tale" and a "brand new online multiplayer experience."

For months, Rockstar Games and its parent company Take-Two have been teasing Red Dead Redemption 2. This week, after so many dropped hints and mentions of how important the Red Dead series is, Rockstar revealed some Red Dead Redemption 2 concept art, getting fans even more hyped (and seeing fellow developers get in on the Red Dead teaser fun).

Today, right as all of that excitement threatened to break the Internet, Rockstar Games officially announced Red Dead Redemption 2. A RDR2 page on the Rockstar Games website describes the title as "an epic tale of life in America's unforgiving heartland" and that the game's "vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience." It's worth noting that the Red Dead Online domain was registered by Rockstar, which may tie into this new multiplayer experience.

Unfortunately, no information about the game's plot has been revealed yet. Though, with all seven of the silhouettes in the updated piece of concept art resembling men, it now seems unlikely that the game will focus on Dutch's Gang (the gang that RDR protagonist John Marston was part of) given that John's wife Abigail Marston was part of the group. The debut Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer is set to be released on Thursday, October 20 at 11AM EST, so story details and rumors that the game will have two protagonists will likely be addressed then.

Also a big talking point is Red Dead Redemption 2's proposed launch platforms. According to the RDR2 page, the game is set to launch in fall 2017, with the PS4 and Xbox One logos both present. The logo for PC isn't featured, however. This could mean that Red Dead Redemption 2 is set to skip PC altogether, just like the original Red Dead Redemption's PC port – which was allegedly 'never' seriously talked about by Rockstar, though this would be a huge disappointment to PC gamers. On the other hand, it could just mean that RDR2 on PC won't be available at launch, as was the case with Grand Theft Auto 5 which arrived on PC after consoles. Neither has been confirmed yet though, so PC gamers should keep their fingers crossed.

Many have also pointed out that the RDR2 announcement page makes no mention of the Nintendo NX. Some have suggested that, as the NX doesn't have an official logo (or name) yet, Rockstar is likely holding off on an announcement until Nintendo makes its big reveal. Given that Take-Two is 'enthusiastic' about the Nintendo NX and that it is 'very interested' in Nintendo's plans, it would seem odd for its major upcoming release to skip the platform, but those looking forward to the new Rockstar game and the new hardware will have to wait and see.
