Fishing mini-games are present in a ton of video games, even those that have little to do with fishing. Some video game franchises, like The Legend of Zelda series, have included fishing in several title entries, with the mechanics changing on different handhelds and consoles. In Red Dead Redemption 2, players can participate in classic frontier activities such as hunting and fishing and bag Legendary game to brag to others about. However, one player's issues catching a Legendary fish lead them to ditch classic fishing practices altogether and go for something a bit more direct.

Players looking for Legendary fish in Red Dead Redemption 2 must first talk to a guy named Jeremy Gill. He'll provide the quest "A Fisher of Fish," which tasks players with locating and catching the 13 Legendary fish scattered about the world map. Catching these fish requires players to use the correct lure for each fish and have just the right touch when it comes to reeling them in. This isn't always easy, and after several failed attempts at catching a Legendary Bluegill, one Reddit user decided to just chuck their knife.

As seen in the Reddit video, the player fails to catch the Legendary Bluegill and immediately switches from a fishing rod to a throwing knife. Other fish slap at the surface of Flat Iron Lake in Red Dead Redemption 2, but the player's keen eye catches a dark spot just beneath the surface. Recognizing this as the elusive Bluegill, the player takes aim and lets loose a throwing knife directly at the fish. In a split second the Legendary Bluegill floats up to the surface, and the player simply strides out into the water for the prize.

Players in the comment section were quick to share their stories of the most difficult Legendary fish to catch in the game. Some agreed with this Reddit user, saying that catching the Legendary Bluegill requires standing in a specific spot and facing the correct angle. Others said that the Bluegill wasn't difficult and they had a much harder time with other fish like the Legendary Muskie and the Legendary Sockeye Salmon. Some players also ditched the standard fishing mechanics in Red Dead Redemption 2 altogether and got fish using a bow and arrows or explosives.

One thing everyone seemed to agree on is that Red Dead Redemption 2 is the kind of game that rewards players for thinking creatively. Its large open world is filled with unique situations for players to encounter, whether that's searching for Legendary game or discovering secret side quests that are easy to miss.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia and Xbox One.
