A Red Dead Redemption 2 player has shown off their incredible recreation of John Wayne's gunslinger J.B Books from The Shootist. Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the most iconic Western stories of all time, and it's fitting to see crossovers between it and other classic Westerns.

Almost five years after the game was initially released, Red Dead Redemption 2 remains the gold standard for intricate open-worlds. Rockstar's attention to detail is second-to-none, with new things still being found to this day. It was critically lauded upon its release, and has been rewarded with incredible sales. Just recently, Red Dead Redemption 2 passed the 50 million sales mark, making it one of the best-selling games of all time. While it may not be as successful as GTA 5 for Rockstar, it's likely these numbers are beyond anything Rockstar could have predicted when it greenlit the sequel to 2010's Red Dead Redemption.

The recreation was created by Redditor TheKey32, who posted a side-by-side comparison between their recreation and John Wayne's portrayal of J.B Books from 1976's The Shootist. It's eerily accurate, and if downloaded, replaces the Valentine bartender in single-player. The recreation is part of a wider project by TheKey32 call the NPC Makeover Project, which promises even more classic Western characters to come in the future. While this particular instance is a mod, plenty of players use Red Dead Online to bring classic figures to life once again. One Red Dead Online player even made their character look like Abraham Lincoln in the game, before promptly being shot by another player.

Gamers in the thread loved the recreation, and were curious about how certain elements were achieved. One user asked how they managed to get the pocket watch chain on the character, and it turns out it's actually a custom vest made by combined parts of various NPCs. Red Dead Redemption 2 has plenty of outfits for players to be able to customize their character, whether that be Arthur Morgan or John Marston, but it seems as though this outfit isn't available in the base game.

With customization so crucial to what Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Online have managed to achieve, players will be hoping it remains a focus in any potential Red Dead Redemption 3. With GTA 6 on the way, Rockstar currently has its hands full elsewhere. While a sequel to the game isn't yet confirmed by the developer, the enormous sales figures could make it a formality once development of GTA 6 is fully winding down.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
