If nothing else, Rockstar Games expertly crafts a living, realistic western world in Red Dead Redemption 2, complete with environmental storytelling that cannot be matched. Rockstar Games is often praised for its attention to small details, and that along with its thrilling story, fun mysteries, and more make it a game that quickly became part of a larger gaming canon.

Of course, sometimes the best aspects are the unplanned encounters found in Red Dead Redemption 2. The latest includes one player, as Arthur Morgan, encountering another character who looks just like Arthur Morgan in the wild.

Redditor obtainer_of_clout shared their discovery on the Red Dead Redemption 2 Subreddit, where they see a man on a horse wearing the iconic jacket and hat of Arthur Morgan. This doppelganger also appears to be holding a gun up, not unlike Arthur Morgan does in some of Red Dead Redemption 2’s game art. At first glance, it definitely looks like some version of a player-made and tailored character.

To really add to it, some Redditors were quick to point out that the doppelganger on horseback is also riding a Morgan, one of Red Dead 2’s most common horses. That point really drives home the whole idea that this is an Arthur Morgan doppelganger or copycat. Of course, that whole idea also led to some whole shenanigans in the comments.

Not only was the small detail about the Red Dead 2 horse confirmed, but some joked about the “town” not being big enough for the two of them, comments that “there can only be one,” jokes of the pointing Spider-Man meme, and more. Ultimately, many of the commenters agreed that he couldn’t be left alive and, according to the OP, the Arthur Morgan doppelganger was killed shortly after this screenshot was taken.

Of course, this is far from the only random encounter any Red Dead Redemption 2 player has ever had. Some have come across scripted events, like where the Murfree Brood can threaten Arthur Morgan while he’s at a campfire. Others, however, seem genuinely random and not initiated by events in the game world, such as a random deer just directly walking up to John Marston during Red Dead 2’s epilogue. All of this is only possible thanks to the living, breathing world that Rockstar has created.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is available on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
