Red Dead Online is the online multiplayer companion to Red Dead Redemption 2. With Red Dead Redemption 2 commonly regarded as one of the most iconic and popular open-world games of all time, Red Dead Online has a lot to live up to. Just like in the single-player campaign, players can ride a horse, traverse the vast western landscape and complete bounties. Red Dead Online's outlaws can even do things that the single-player campaign doesn't allow, like hanging out with friends, taking on roles, and customizing their character.

Despite Red Dead Online's wide array of activities, mini-games and open-world exploration, there are still some things many players think are missing. With a few alterations and additions to the online experience, Red Dead Redemption 2's online mode might just find the same acclaim as the single-player edition. Here are the top 5 things players wish Rockstar would add to the game.

5 Real Estate

While players can set up camp or even create a Moonshine Shack in Red Dead Online, they aren't able to establish a roof over their head, instead adopting a more nomadic lifestyle. Many outlaws, though, believe that their characters should be able to purchase their own ranches or homesteads. Many players' characters might live in a home according to their lore; even John Marston ended up on his ranch in Beecher's Hope after his life as an outlaw.

Adding homes for player' characters would allow them to live their characters' lives more truly to their characters' lore, giving them more options for roleplay. It would also give much-needed new customization options to the game, making it feel like a truly immersive and personal experience. Some players are so passionate about their desire to buy a home in Red Dead Online that they've created mods just for this feature.

4 Vehicles

Make no mistake, outlaws in Red Dead Online can buy the Bounty Wagon and Hunting Wagon if they have the appropriate roles. That said, many players aren't happy with just these options for vehicles. After all, there were several different types of vehicles available at the time period in which Red Dead Online is set, making many players wonder why Rockstar has not incorporated other types of vehicles.

Vehicles could be a new way for players to express themselves in addition to character customization and outfits. There are also no customization options for the Hunting Wagon and Bounty Wagon, making them unappealing options for those fond of the many unique vehicle options in games like Grand Theft Auto 5. Players tend to think of their vehicles as an extension of their character, so Red Dead Online should consider adding them.

3 New Roles

Red Dead Online character roles three characters

Since its inception, Red Dead Online has added numerous specialist roles for outlaws to choose from. Players can become a bounty hunter, moonshiner, naturalist, trader, or a collector. Each role unlocks unique benefits, items and tasks. While these five roles are currently the only ones in Red Dead Online, many players believe that there should be more to choose from, especially since not everyone's play style fits with the current roles.

The rancher role is one of the most commonly requested roles among fans of the game. Some fans have written online about the features they wish would come from new roles, particularly the rancher role. Reddit user quietlittlevirus wrote on what that role should ideally look like: "You could have a ranch hand, sort of like Cripps with the Trader [role]. Start out small with a cow and some chickens. Then work your way up. Eventually get your own stable where you could break wild horses and sell them, or do cattle drives."

2 Better Honor System

While Red Dead Online is realistic in many ways, its honor system certainly isn't its most realistic feature. Players can shoot a whole city, lose all their honor, and then brush their horse enough to reach high honor again. Many outlaws think this doesn't make sense, and takes away from the realistic roleplay aspect of the game's world. After all, a mass murderer certainly couldn't redeem their reputation in the real world by petting enough animals.

Some Redditors have shared their suggestions for how the honor system could improve. Reddit user Yoda975 suggested that trivial actions like brushing a players' horse shouldn't help them gain honor, and criminal activities should lower honor more. "Patting and feeding my horse don't make me a good person," they wrote. "Shooting up a whole town should be an action the makes me nearly irredeemable." Most other players seem to agree, wanting greater repercussions for truly horrendous actions.

1 Better Character Customization

Red Dead Online character customization

While Red Dead Online players can customize their characters' facial structure, whistle tone, and gender, many outlaws believe that they should have more options to customize their characters. Players have noted that characters can't wear glasses, for example, but non-playable characters in Red Dead Redemption 2 wear glasses. Many players also feel limited by the number of hair colors and styles in the game. Despite this, many players still manage to dress their characters in unique and sometimes hilarious ways.

Redditor therealneon335 received almost 50 upvotes on their post providing multiple suggestions for improved character customization. Among them were custom beards and hair, decorations for hats, and an unbutton/button system for overcoats. Popular comments also suggested that players be able to equip eye patches, glasses, contacts and other features that alter the look of the playable character's eyes.

Red Dead Online is available on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia.
