Though it has been out for more than a year, Red Dead Redemption 2 is still a popular game, and so is its online mode, Red Dead Online. Most of that is due to developer Rockstar Studios' continued updates– like the jumping challenges for Leap Year– and Rockstar just released a new one.

Rockstar is introducing four new Showdown maps to the Featured Series in Red Dead Online. Not only that, but gamers who play this week's Featured Series or any other Showdown mode will get double XP until April 13th.

The new Showdown maps added to Red Dead Online vary, but one thing they have in common is that they all start by giving players Throwing Knives instead of the usual pistols. They may not be the best weapons in the game, but they definitely bring an interesting change to Showdown.

Overrun mode will take place in Pike's Basin, during which players will need to capture and defend the most territories to win. Plunder takes place on Stillwater Creek and has players searching for unclaimed loot in the murky waters. The crew that returns the most loot to their home base wins.

The third new Showdown map coming to Red Dead Online is north of the Annesburg Mines in Roanoke Valley, which is host to Spoils of Conflict. In this mode, players will have to defend their stockpile while stealing from enemies. Whoever steals the most wins. And finally, there's Up In Smoke, set in the usually calm waters of the Kamassa Rivers. In this mode, players will have to deliver an explosive package to the enemy's camp. The crew that delivers the most packages and destroys the enemy's base wins.

Along with these new maps, Rockstar says it will be releasing two extra Showdown modes within the next couple of weeks. The developer also stated that it will be donating 5% of all income from purchases made in GTA Online and Red Dead Online to assist communities and companies that have been affected by COVID-19. This might make up for them banning innocent players in the game.

These new Showdown maps aren't the only new updates Red Dead Online has received lately. Not long ago, Rockstar decided to bring back some old cosmetics, like the Gator Hat. Other cosmetics that were reintroduced to online players include the Squat Stovepipe Top Hat, Winter Shotgun Coat, Benbow Jacket, and the Vaquero Baroque Spurs. Along with those items, the update also included some XP bonuses, including a 50% bonus on all successful bounty missions and a 100% bonus on all Role XP for the Condor Egg and Salvage Collect events.

Red Dead Online is available on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
