Red Dead Redemption 2 released in 2018 to critical and commercial success, selling over 26 million copies and sitting at an impressive Metacritc score of 97, making it one of the best wild west games out there. The title launched with Red Dead Online, an online component similar to Grand Theft Auto V's GTA Online.

But whereas GTA 5's online mode still continues to receive regular updates, it's been nearly seven months since Read Dead Online got a major update, the most recent being the Moonshiner Specialist Role. It's safe to say that players have gotten bored with the game without any official new content.

Without any additional content from Rockstar to dig their teeth into, players have been forced to find their own methods of entertaining one another. Red Dead players first started coordinating together over the Red Dead Online Discord and subreddits, last month conducting a fashion contest with the theme of Saint-Denis.

This month's theme was "The Traveling Circus," which resulted in an entire server filled with players dressed like circus clowns. The moderator commented on their reasoning behind the odd theme, stating that “Since we’re all clowns for believing we’ll get an update, it’s fitting that we dress up as them in-game too."

YouTube gamer OnlyPVPCat uploaded a video on July 12, showcasing the hilarious spectacle which you can watch above. The video shows an entire server's worth of players dressed as clowns as they ride a train, sail ships, race one another in vehicles, and much more.

It does come off as a bit unnerving and creepy, as the clown costumes have a very Joker-esque look to them, and make the event like its pulled straight from a nightmare alternate reality, where the world is run by killer clowns.

As funny as it is, the event's purpose has been to directly attack Rockstar for its unwillingness to add additional content to the game. It does stand to wonder why its nearly decade-old title, GTA 5, continues to get updates while the much more recent Red Dead Redemption 2 lacks any new updates. But while the title may not see any new content updates in the near future, at least we can all appreciate players that go out of their way to make fun custom events such as these.

Read Dead Redemption 2 is available now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
