The streaming service assures audiences that its evolving strategy is to support its movies and other franchises with the marketing push necessary to stand out from the competition, which includes an exciting update on Rebel Moon.
Netflix and Zack Snyder have had a close working relationship since the director first released Army of the Dead and its spinoff film Army of Thieves on the streaming platform. Planet of the Dead is still on the horizon, and with Rebel Moon, that’s two franchises that the director has created exclusively for Netflix. Snyder has been open in expressing plans for the Army of the Dead universe, including an anime in the works, but there has been more secrecy surrounding Rebel Moon until recently.
It was previously reported that Rebel Moon would be split into two parts. However, according to a recent New York Times interview with Netflix's Marketing Chief, Marian Lee, this sci-fi epic has been extended further, with Rebel Moon being "the first in a trilogy." The $80 million film set was said to have often been visited by Lee, which Deborah Snyder -producer and wife of Zack Snyder - recalled not happening with previous marketing teams regarding the production of Army of the Dead. This reveals a more hands-on marketing approach that aims to understand and communicate the spirit of its content in ways that will connect with audiences.
Rebel Moon is the latest that Netflix and its marketing team are pursuing, with exciting things to look forward to in the build-up to its release. It can be assumed that Netlfix's marketing team already has a new and exciting strategy planned for the upcoming streaming blockbuster, especially with it now being a trilogy of films the streaming service will be invested in for years to come. The associated content also includes a Rebel Moon video game in the works, which may be a first for Netflix in branching out to other mediums of entertainment with its original content.
Netflix may want Zack Snyder's original sci-fi epic to be its version of Star Wars. After all, Rebel Moon was inspired by Star Wars. Only time can tell how similar the two franchises will be, although many fans of Snyder and his filmography are already highly anticipating Rebel Moon's release.
