Highlights

  • Dungeons in Realm of the Mad God are the best way for new players to acquire gear and stat potions to permanently strengthen their characters.
  • The Cave of a Thousand Treasures drops a lot of loot, including stat potions, although it can be relatively rare to find.
  • The Toxic Sewers is an easy dungeon for players to bolster their defense, as it guarantees a defense stat potion drop from the boss.

As many MMOs tend to be, Realm of the Mad God is pretty hard for new players to understand. There are many progression systems that aren't explained well, and over a decade's worth of content to try to begin to grasp. It certainly doesn't help that the game challenges players in a very different way than traditional MMORPGs: Realm of the Mad God is a rogue-like bullet hell where all character leveling, progression, and gear can be lost with a single mistake.

With that being said, finding easily accessible sources of gear and stat potions to help permanently strengthen characters is the most important gameplay loop for new players to grow accustomed to. Dungeons are the best way to start acquiring these items, with many dungeon bosses dropping mid-tier equipment and guaranteed stat potions. Still, even with the "tombstone ranking" system, it can be hard for players to gauge the difficulty of certain dungeons.

10 Cave of a Thousand Treasures

A Hillbilly Warrior fights the Golden Oryx Effigy boss in Cave of a Thousand Treasures.

One of the rarer dungeons on the list, the Cave of a Thousand Treasures drops fairly infrequently from the Djinns in the godlands within the realm. Though it's full of dastardly traps and deceptive enemies, this dungeon offers far more loot than many others.

Most of the enemies in this dungeon offer a chance at dropping stat potions, and players might walk out of this fight with half a dozen potions or more. The only real negatives of this dungeon are its relative rarity and inconsistency of loot drops.

9 Haunted Cemetery

Hillbilly Warrior stands next to Skuld, boss of the Haunted Cemetery.

The Haunted Cemetery is a rather unorthodox dungeon, featuring waves of gladiatorial combat rather than a linear dungeon crawl. Players will find themselves fighting four waves of enemies, followed by a "boss wave," which drops the loot. There are five different arenas that follow this formula throughout the Haunted Cemetery, and the player can only move on to the next arena once they defeat a boss.

This dungeon can be quite difficult for some newer players, but they're also welcome to leave after any single one of the boss fights. The sheer number of bosses contained within the cemetery makes this a great dungeon for looting some great gear and ample stat potions!

8 Cursed Library

Hillbilly Warrior stands cursed next to the Corruption Phantasm in the Cursed Library.

The Cursed Library will be many players' first encounter with the "curse" status effect, which causes afflicted players to take additional damage for every shot they tank. This can be a daunting prospect, but braving the dungeon is definitely worth it.

The boss drops both Vitality and Wisdom potions, and red pressure plates throughout the library can be stepped on to unlock a 2nd boss, the Corruption Phantom. The secret boss drops even more stat potions and has unique gear in its drop table!

7 Toxic Sewers

A sickened Hillbilly Warrior fights Gulpord, the boss of the Toxic Sewers.

The sickness effect that players will be dealing with throughout the Toxic Sewers is one of the scariest statuses in the game, but careful movement and enemy clearing will still allow players ample time to heal to full health. It's worth it, too; this dungeon is one of the easiest ways to guarantee players will bolster their defense.

The boss of the sewers, Gulpord, is guaranteed to drop a defense stat potion, and there's a chance for Golden Rats and treasure rooms to spawn throughout the dungeon, which will drop even more potions. Enterprising players can walk out of this dungeon with a handful of defense potions, massively increasing their odds of survival elsewhere.

6 Abyss of Demons

Hillbilly Warrior initiates the fight with Malphas, the boss of the Abyss of Demons.

The Abyss of Demons might be one of the more daunting dungeons designed for newer players. The name is foreboding, there's lava all over the place, and the minions inside hit like a truck. Even still, with a little patience, running the Abyss becomes a very rewarding endeavor.

Malphas, the boss of the dungeon, drops both vitality and defense potions, helping the player survive heavy onslaughts of weaker shots. There are also sometimes treasure rooms that can be found in the Abyss, where players can engage in a fairly easy fight against a stationary idol for even more loot.

5 Undead Lair

Hillbilly Warrior fights the ghost minions surrounding Septavius.

The Undead Lair is one of the easiest dungeons in the godlands, but it also aims to deceive players, luring them to a quick demise. When players enter this dungeon for the first time, they'll need to watch out for marked floor traps. Piles of bones also have a chance of reanimating into enemies that do massive damage - if players aren't careful, this will instantly kill their beloved character.

On the other hand, if proper precautions are taken, the Undead Lair becomes fairly easy, with a boss that's a pushover compared to some of the others on this list. This dungeon is a source of wisdom potions, helping players regenerate mana quicker than before!

4 Sprite World

A Hillbilly Warrior is struck with low damage shots in the boss arena of the Sprite World.

The Sprite World is one of the easiest godlands dungeons for new players, but it might not seem like it at first glance. The moving tiles are incredibly confusing and disorienting. Luckily, the enemies here don't do much damage, so it's easy to stay out of sticky situations.

The boss, Limon, can be a bit trickier - the fight swaps phases quickly and takes place entirely on a platform made of different moving tiles. Even still, if players have learned anything from clearing out the dungeon, this should be a manageable way to get a potion of dexterity. If players are lucky, they'll even get one of the best early-game cloaks for the rogue!

3 Snake Pit

Hillbilly Warrior fights Stheno the Snake Queen in her throne room in the Snake Pit.

Without a doubt, the Snake Pit is the easiest dungeon in the godlands. Dropping from Medusas (as well as certain enemies just outside the godlands), the enemies within this dungeon aren't bulky at all. Their shots are easy to dodge, and getting to the boss barely poses a threat.

The real challenge comes from Stheno the Snake Queen, but her attack patterns are easy to learn and dodge around. Farming this dungeon is a great way to max out the speed stat, helping players dodge better in Realm of the Mad God's other content.

2 The Hive

Hillbilly Warrior on the cusp of defeating the Queen Bee within The Hive dungeon.

The easiest dungeon with stat potions in the drop table, The Hive dungeon is a great way to get acquainted with the gameplay loop that really strengthens the player's character. The enemies don't hit too hard, and newer mechanics are introduced when the bee minions change phases.

The boss of this dungeon has a chance to drop a potion of dexterity, increasing the shooting speed for the player and letting them boost their DPS even higher. This is a decent way to buff up before visiting harder content in the godlands!

1 Forbidden Jungle

Hillbilly Warrior stands in a safe spot in the arena as Mixcoatl transitions phases in the boss fight.

The Forbidden Jungle is a low-risk dungeon for new players to come to grips with the basics of the game. While many of the early-game dungeons aren't really worth delving into, the Forbidden Jungle has some gear drops that make it worthwhile.

The cyan bag drops from the boss in this dungeon drop low-tier UT items; these items are a great way to feed pets. Pets are the cornerstone of a player's survivability, and having an easy way to farm items to make them stronger should be the number one priority at the start of a Realm of the Mad God player's journey!

Realm of the Mad God is available on PC.
