Reacher Season 2 has been getting rave reviews, with five episodes so far available to stream on Prime Video, with another three to come leading up to the finale on January 19. Alan Ritchson plays the eponymous hero, Jack Reacher in the sophomore run, and he is surrounded by a very good ensemble cast of characters from his former unit. Serinda Swan joins season 2 as a series regular, portraying Karla Dixon.
Karla Dixon is a love interest for Reacher and one of his most trusted allies, and their relationship is one of the highlights of season 2 thus far. She is joined by new series regulars, Shaun Sipos as David O'Donnell and Maria Sten as Frances Neagley. They are a key component of the former 110th MP Special Investigations Unit, and are working to bring down Shane Langston (Robert Patrick) and his group of cronies at New Age Technologies before they get their hands on a bunch of dangerous missiles.
Who is Dixon in Reacher season 2?
Karla Dixon is a former member of Reacher's investigation unit who specializes in undercover forensics. The two have an interesting history, with Reacher never acting on his romantic feelings for Dixon in the past as he was her boss at the time. When Dixon turns up in Season 2, to assist with the take-down of Shane Langston and his henchman at New Age, the shackles are off and Reacher and Dixon act on their attraction to each other, leading to some stormy scenes between them.
It initially hots up between them in episode two, titled 'What Happens in Atlantic City', in which Dixon makes her first appearance. She meets up with Reacher, Neagley and O'Donnell to help after hearing they were looking for her. Turns out, she was difficult to track down as she was on an undercover job involving a corporate embezzlement case. Reacher asks her to use her fake ID to rent a car, as the others can be tracked and tells her Franz and Swan are dead, and Sanchez and Orozco are missing. Dixon joins them as they head to Atlantic City to track down their former 110th members. While in Atlantic City, Reacher and Dixon are attacked by hit men hired by Langston, and after defeating them, they act on their feelings for each other.
Who plays Dixon on Reacher?
Karla Dixon is played by Canadian actress, Serinda Swan, who is no stranger to roles on television. She has appeared in shows including Psych, Smallville, Graceland, Chicago Fire, The Twilight Zone, Feud, Ballers, Coroners, and Marvel's short-lived Inhumans. Swan's role as Karla Dixon appears to be her highest profile role yet and could lead to much bigger roles in the future for the talented actress.
Swan's most significant role before she landed the part of Karla Dixon in Reacher season 2, was playing Dr Jenny Cooper in Coroner, which came out in 2019. The series sees Swan playing a widowed coroner who investigates a string of mysterious deaths in Toronto. There have been 38 episodes so far over four seasons on CBC. In June 2022, Serinda Swan decided to leave the series, to explore new roles.
[Swan] made the decision to leave the series to focus on new creative endeavors, including directing, and we are now discussing options with the producers in light of her departure.
Is Dixon in the Jack Reacher books?
Karla Dixon does appear in two of Jack Reacher's book series. Bad Luck and Trouble is the book that Reacher Season 2 is based on, and it's no surprise that she features heavily in that book, due to her significant role in the series. The character stays relatively the same from book to screen, with the romance between Reacher and Dixon also being a big part of the story in the book.
Fans of the books will know that Dixon also features in the Reacher book, The Affair, which is set in March 1997, and acts as a prequel, and is actually set just six months before the opening of Killing Floor, which was the basis for Reacher Season 1. Jack Reacher is still a major in the military police, which explains the appearance of Karla Dixon in the mix. Reacher is sent undercover.
The story involves a county sheriff who is also a former US Marine - and happens to be a stunningly beautiful woman as well, whose investigation into a murder is going nowhere.
The book is a turning point in Reacher's career as he questions whether to do what the army wants, which would leave him not being able to live with himself. Obviously, Reacher ends up leaving the army as the rest of the book series is based on his post-army life. It could be an interesting book to turn into a future series of Reacher, especially as it would add more context to the prior relationship between Reacher and Dixon. Another alternative would be to feature flashbacks from this book in a future series, which fits in well with what happens in the series anyway.

Reacher drifts across the United States, providing help to those who need it along the way. The Prime Video series has also featured performances by Willa Fitzgerald, Serinda Swan, Domenick Lombardozzi, and Robert Patrick.
