For both old and new players that are making their way through Capcom's Resident Evil 4 remake, the newly added Merchant Requests adds a little something fresh to the proceedings. Instead of constantly fighting infected villagers and monsters, these side quests are quaint detours that reward players with valuable Spinels to spend on powerful bonuses.

One of these activities requires players to get revenge for the Merchant, who has lost his jewel to a feathered thief. This guide will lay out the steps on how to complete the Jewel Thief Merchant Request in Resident Evil 4.

How to Complete the Jewel Thief Merchant Request in Resident Evil 4 Remake

Available in Chapter 12 near the start, players can find this request next to the elevator where the Merchant can be found. The gist is to find a scratched emerald and sell it back to the Merchant to complete it. The hint that the game provides is that the crow can be found in the Courtyard, but there is some misdirection here.

Instead of heading to the Courtyard area as shown on the map, players should head to the hallways between the Wine Cellar and the Courtyard itself, just outside where the Merchant and a typewriter can be found. Look towards the stairs in the north, and a bird's nest can be found just sitting on top of a small roof.

This is the target, so shoot it down, and the scratched emerald will drop to the ground, ready to be picked up by Leon. Selling the scratched emerald back to the Merchant will complete the request and earn three Spinels for the trouble.

Although it may take until Chapter 12 for this request to surface itself, there is actually a shortcut that will allow eagled-eyed players to complete it way before the need ever arises. In keeping consistent with the many ways the Resident Evil 4 remake has surprised players with its flexibility and freedom, the Merchant Request can actually be settled way back in Chapter 8.

At the start of that chapter, with Ashley disappearing from Leon's side, the quest to find her is on. However, on the way to the Merchant, the bird's nest can already be spotted on the very same roof, albeit in darker circumstances. Shooting down the nest this early will still net players the scratched emerald, and turning it in at the Merchant will complete the request ahead of schedule. If that is done, the note will no longer appear in Chapter 12.

Resident Evil 4 (2023) is available on PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
