Tappei Nagatsuki's popular anime and light novel series, Re:Zero: Starting Life in Another World, might get a happy ending when all is said and done. The popular Isekai series tells the story of Natsuki Subaru and the trials he endures in order to ensure the safety of those closest to him. So a happy ending would be well-appreciated by fans.In 2012, the web novel was serialized on Japanese user-generated novel publishing website ShÅsetsuka ni Nar, and presently, has four volumes and about four different side stories. To commemorate the decade-long franchise, Nagatsuki decided to share delightful news concerning the ongoing story's ending with fans.Re:Zero: Starting Life in Another World has been met with mostly positive reception from the anime community, spanning two seasons so far. After reincarnating in a new world, main protagonist Subaru is bestowed with a unique and torturous power that allows him to Return by Death. This resets time to a fixed point after he is killed, regardless of the cause. The torture the character goes through in the story often leaves a sour taste in the mouth of viewers, so news regarding the possible happy ending was met with enthusiasm and excitement.
April 2022 marked the ten-year anniversary of the series. This is a quality achievement for Nagatsuki, since the franchise has been increasingly successful throughout its ten-year history. The tenth anniversary led Nagatsuki to hold a public broadcast on Twitter Space, where he answered fans' questions regarding the anime-manga series. In the broadcast, the author shared a lot of information; however, the leading question was whether the series was getting a happy ending. Unfortunately, a lot of Western anime fans were not aware of the broadcast, as most of the information was in Japanese.
However, Twitter user LoremIpsumVerb (Stride Vollachia) translated crucial information for fans worldwide. According to Stride, when a fan questioned Nagatsuki on whether the protagonists, Subaru and Emilia, would get married to each other, he replied evasively, answering that Re:Zero would have a happy ending. Stride Vollacha also tweeted that Tappei did not confirm anything regarding Subaru’s future marriage partner; however, the series happy ending is assured. In the broadcast, Tappei outlined the series' central arcs: Arc One and Arc Eleven, the last story arc, so fans can scrutinize these arcs to discover hints regarding the story’s possible ending.
The “happy ending” of the series confirmed by the Tappei could mean anything. It could mean Subaru ending up with Rem or Emilia. It could even be Subaru marrying both of them, following the common tropes in the Isekai and Harem genres. Either way, fans can rest easy since a good ending looks to be assured.
