It might be surprising to hear that there are still some undiscovered areas of the map in Red Dead Redemption 2 that old and new players alike have yet to visit, considering the game has been out for a while at this point.

But gamers shouldn't be blamed for not being so thorough. There are so many missions and so many things to do that often a house in the middle of nowhere isn't something gamers find the time to visit. Some of these secret locations are really fascinating, though, and even casual Red Dead Redemption 2 fans should take in a few of these sites to appreciate the game all the more.

Updated on May 4th, 2023 by Hodey Johns: Common sense would dictate that the more time players spend in Red Dead Redemption 2, the less mysterious the world should be. For most games, they'd be right, but Rockstar's title is so layered with secrets and details that players are constantly stumbling across hidden dialogue, secret mechanics, and, of course, unknown areas. This list remains a source for many players to uncover some of the neat areas of the game that most gamers tend to miss. More hidden areas have been uncovered by perceptive and curious gamers and these findings have been added to the list. Readers can now take in even more of the unknown places than ever before.

17 Bigfoot's Hiding Place

Red Dead Redemption 2 Bigfoot's Hiding Place

To get away from Dutch's constant yammering, the jagged rocks to the west of the Grizzlies can be a peaceful place to unwind. Mechanically, this area is mostly regarded as a blunt mechanism for keeping players confined to the map.

However, players who decided to walk along this mountainside are greeted with some conversation (unique for both Arthur and John). This conversation is none other than Bigfoot, who reveals he's in hiding because of his size.

16 Yeti Corpse

Red Dead Redemption 2 A Yeti Corpse

This game is intensely replayable for players who like to explore and find secrets. If somebody is looking for a yeti body, a few keen-eyed cowboys have stumbled across the giant corpse and it's worth a quick trip to see it in person

It's all the way up near the top of Mt. Shann, just off of the path and under an overhang. The character will issue some kind of explanation and even document it in their journal. It's too bad they don't think to bring it to Saint Denis; think of the money they could have made.

15 Robot's Resting Place

Red Dead Redemption 2 Robot Taking A Rest In The Snow By A Cliff

Some players might love all of the archeology in the game, but that doesn't mean technology has been neglected entirely. Fishing pictures can be hilarious but standing next to a piece of the future is a mind-blowing moment.

Players will first have to do the side quests for Marko Dragic, then visit him one last time after all the quests are complete. Search his laboratory and then begin the hunt. The robot has made its way across the map and into the mountains. Please note: This isn't a final resting place, the robot is still quite "alive."

14 Assailant's Cabin

Red Dead Redemption 2 Arthur's Assailant Mocking Him As He Regains Consciousness

This is a trigger warning to those who have been victimized by sexual assault.

Arthur can be tricked in any number of ways in the game. He'll be lured to save a damsel in distress who then robs him. He'll be sold a get-rich-quick book that doesn't work at all. But perhaps the most insidious trick comes from a dinner offer in the swamps of Lemoyne.

The scene is blurred out and blackened, but the assailant disgustingly mocks Arthur as he resists. For those who want a measure of justice, players can visit the cabin again and ensure that this last assault was the man's last. There are gruesomely tough NPCs, but this monstrous man puts up no fight.

13 Serial Killer's Cabin

Red Dead Redemption 2 Serial Killer's Cabin

While some locations in the game are easy to stumble upon randomly, some will require a bit of work, a keen eye, and a strong stomach. The wild west of Red Dead is home to some less-than-reputable characters, and players can learn about one of them early on in the game if they notice the serial killer's handiwork.

Players have to find and inspect three different murder sites that feature gory dismembered bodies and maps taunting us to find the serial killer. Once those murder sites are found and the maps figured out, fans will find the serial killer's lair, which is in the basement of the remains of a cabin and is one of the creepier side missions players can find. To get through it, try to think of the wisdom Sadie Adler has offered.

12 Feral Man's Cave

Red Dead Redemption 2 Feral Man's Cave

Much like the first Red Dead Redemption, Rockstar Games has included a few possibly supernatural encounters throughout the world of RDR2 that players can stumble upon in their travels. The first way is on a night of the full moon when players can see the odd sight of a hairy man howling at the moon.

They can also encounter a strange hairy man running through the woods and howling alongside a white wolf, and if players manage to follow the Feral Man back to his cave, they will learn the truth about RDR2's very own Wolfman, if they survive the dangers of the Feral Man's Cave.

11 U.F.O. Cabin

Red Dead Redemption 2 UFO Cabin

Most of the details in the game involve intricate hunting camp decorations or local fauna, but there are even a couple of UFOs that can be viewed in the world at the right time. Most players know about the UFO that can be seen at the top of Mount Shann between the early morning hours of 1 and 3, but that isn't the only UFO out there.

Players might have found the odd cabin near Emerald Ranch in New Hanover that houses what appears to be members of a suicide cult. A note reveals that the cult ended their lives and mentions the Mt. Shann UFO spot. However, if players revisit that shack at 2 AM, they will see yet another, different UFO flying around the shack outside.

10 Cave Of Statues

Red Dead Redemption 2 Cave Of Statues

There are quite a few ways to get money in Red Dead Redemption 2, from hunting and skinning animals to robbing people and trains, but one of the most immediately lucrative ways that are accessible early on in the game is treasure hunting. Those gold bars can start to add up, so players were heavily exploring the map for any and all hidden treasures.

Most are available to find through maps found throughout the game, however, the Cave of Statues can easily be missed if players aren't putting all the random clues together, like the cave painting in Cumberland Forest. Once the cave is found to the east of Donner Falls in Ambarino, players just need to solve the statue's secret and earn themselves three gold bars. It can help Arthur afford more food when he's committed to overeating.

9 ManBearPig

Red Dead Redemption 2 ManBearPig

Fans of South Park may have been surprised when entering the second-floor house near the Van Horn Trading Post only to find what appeared to be the ManBearPig strapped up in a dark room. The house is clearly a horrorshow of experiments as is made even clearer when players see the hanging ManBearPig, but it makes for a fantastic nod to the series the character first appeared in.

ManBearPig is a creature the residents of South Park are first warned about by Al Gore, and the episode features a huge amount of references to the first Red Dead game, making ManBearPig's inclusion in the sequel a fun but terrifying nod that led to even more references in South Park when the sequel was released. The game is known for its historical immersion but lighthearted modern references like this are welcome.

8 Witch's House

Red Dead Redemption 2 Witch House

There have been robots, aliens, Feral Men, and even ManBearPig throughout the Red Dead franchise, but those wouldn't be the only supernatural additions to the map that players can find if they tend to travel the map a bit more than the missions require.

Not content with including Pagan ritual sites and Viking burials, Rockstar also included a Witch's hut, complete with a boiling cauldron in the northern part of Grizzlies East. If players drink from the ominous-looking cauldron, they will actually pass out and wake up a distance away from the Witch's house.

7 Devil's Cave

Red Dead Redemption 2 Devil's Cave

Arthur Morgan and John Marston aren't religious men, though they each have their own beliefs that get touched on a bit throughout the series. However, that faith can be tested if players manage to find the Devil's Cave west of Hanging Dog Ranch in Big Valley.

If players follow a hidden tunnel they will eventually come to a cave with a mysterious man who warns them away from his home, initially telling players that he is the devil. he may stand revealed as only a hermit living in a cave after players help him, but it's still a creepy-looking cave that most seem to miss. Moments like this are one of the reasons the game lived up to the hype.

6 Occult Cabin

Red Dead Redemption 2 Occult Cavern

Butcher Creek is a late-game location that players move through to set up one of the gang's last camps and is full of people hiding out from the law, demons and spirits, or the mining company. It's an odd little town, and even odder at night, but it also has one very interesting cabin that seems to have a connection with the occult.

If players are in Butcher Creek at a rundown shack in the north between 4 AM and 5 AM, they will see a bright red pentagram light up underneath the cabin, and fans still aren't entirely sure what this sign means in the game. It's an ominous glow that players can stare at for a full hour as rain drips off the brim of their cowboy hats.

5 Cursed House

Red Dead Redemption 2 Strange Man's Cabin

One of the oddest stranger missions in the first Red Dead Redemption involved the mysterious character known as the Strange Man, who knew a bit too much about John Marston's future in the game. Red Dead Redemption 2 doesn't actually feature the Strange Man in person, but there are a few nods to the character such as his picture located in the Cholera-infected town of Armadillo.

Players can also find what appears to be the Strange One's cursed house in the bayou near St. Denis that features an unfinished painting, and with each new visit to the house the painting fills out more, eventually revealing the Strange One. Check out the mirror in the Cursed House after seeing the final painting form for another added treat. The game is getting even prettier but it's also getting spookier as players find haunts like this one.

4 Mexico

Red Dead Redemption 2 Mexico

As fans of the first game fondly (or not so fondly) remember, John Marston at one point is forced to escape to Mexico where he plays out some of the game, which was somewhat replicated in the sequel when players wake up on the troubled island of Guarma.

However, players learned that Mexico can still be visited from the New Austin area of the map that is made available in the epilogue of the game. While it's not an official area and players have to break a few game borders to visit the unfinished area, it is still possible to explore an empty Mexico to a small degree.

3 Hollowed-Out Treehouse

Red Dead Redemption 2 Meeting The King Of The Forest

There is a treehouse most gamers will be familiar with as they help White and Black escape the law. But there is another one that is rarely encountered. On the northeasternmost fringes of the map, players can meet the self-proclaimed "king," likely of the forest. He lives in a hollowed-out tree for a home.

Players don't get to go inside or say more than a few words to the hermit who is clearly interested in his privacy. As Rockstar considers making changes to the next game in the franchise, perhaps seeing this man's origins or visiting the inside of his home might be considered.

2 Tiny Church

Red Dead Redemption 2 Arthur Inside The Tiny Church

In the middle of the swamp, some gamers will often hear a mysterious church bell ringing long before they can see the Tiny Church. The ringing ceases when players approach the chapel, whose roof is so small that the character can easily hop on top.

Squat down and head inside to find a golden crucifix, altar, and several pews that are also minuscule. Whether the church is intended to house a host of tiny humans or if it's a piece of art is unknown. It's just something to wonder about while trotting along on a newly-acquired Missouri Fox Trotter horse.

1 Viking Burial Ground

Red Dead Redemption 2 Finding The Viking Burial Ground

Looting tombs isn't the most sadistic act in the game. Though it can be argued that desecrating the Viking burial ground isn't an ethical thing to do, the tomb itself is completely exposed from the top. It's still strangely hard to find because of the plant growth over the top.

Most gamers will find this spot by accident, if at all, by falling in. In the center, there is a body on top of a natural rock slab. It's known that the Vikings visited the Americas yet it's still shocking to see this kind of secret in a video game.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
