Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart’s recently released PC port is getting a new update patch that will help iron out some of its bugs and glitches. Insomniac’s 2021 PlayStation 5 exclusive was hailed as a charming showcase of the then-new console’s graphical prowess, and it came as a welcome surprise when Sony announced a PC port earlier this year. Despite previous claims that Rift Apart was only possible through the PS5’s Solid-State Drive, fans were assured that the latest Ratchet and Clank adventure would be just as pulse-pounding on PCs, and it was even verified for the Steam Deck not too long before it launched last week.

Sure enough, the PC port of Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart was met with mostly warm reviews, with many praising it for avoiding the same technical pitfalls that plagued previous Sony PC rereleases like The Last of Us Part 1. However, Rift Apart didn’t arrive on PC without its problems, as some players felt that Microsoft’s DirectStorage 1.2 technology falls short of the PS5’s SSD when it comes to rendering the game’s detailed environments and signature dimension-shifting mechanic. Thanks in part to these issues, Rift Apart has struggled to gain a foothold on the larger PC market in the days since its release.

Some help might be on the way though, as Insomniac has just launched a new update patch for Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart’s PC port. According to the official patch notes on Insomniac’s website, the Version v1.728.0.0 update resolves some texture streaming issues that lead to certain textures running at low resolution, addresses visual issues with water reflections when ambient occlusion was set to anything other than SSAO, deals with an issue that caused the interact button prompt to remain visible on the screen, and corrects a visual issue with weapon previews at the vendor when using ultra-wide resolution settings, among various smaller bug fixes.

Ratchet and Clank together

Despite a few technical issues and slow sales numbers in comparison to other former PS-exclusive PC launches like God of War and Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart’s PC launch has fans hopeful that Insomniac will eventually produce more games starring the titular space adventurers – or at least port some of their other adventures to PC in the meantime. On the other hand, Rift Apart’s struggles to capture the PC audience has some wondering if Sony will continue porting its games at all.

Hopefully the fixes provided in the new Rift Apart update patch will begin to turn things around for the newly-launched PC port by addressing some of the technical hiccups the game launched with over the weekend. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart was a technical marvel on the PlayStation 5, and PC gamers diving into it for the first time should get the chance to experience it in all its visual splendor.
