The new Patapon spiritual successor titled Ratatan is meeting many of its stretch goals on Kickstarter, ensuring a release across multiple platforms with additional content. Ratatan is fully funded as one of the most successful Kickstarter projects in recent years, and several new features will be added to the game due to several stretch goals being funded.

Developed by Pyramid and Sony's Japan Studio, Patapon became a cult classic series on the PlayStation Portable thanks to its unique rhythm-based controls. No new entries would be released after Patapon 3 launched in 2011, but Sony would remaster Patapon and Patapon 2 for PlayStation 4 in 2017 and 2020. The demand for Patapon remained after the remasters, and co-developer Japan Studio would close its doors in 2021, seemingly reducing the chances of a new entry. Fortunately, the talent behind the Patapon series teamed up to form Ratata Arts, the studio behind the new Ratatan game being funded on Kickstarter.

The official Kickstarter page for Ratatan was updated since 18 stretch goals have been met following the campaign's launch on July 31. As of August 30, the Kickstarter campaign surpassed a total of $1,243,000 in funds, which is over a million past the original Ratatan funding goal. The funds will ensure that Ratatan will release across PC and consoles, including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Since a majority of the stretch goals have been met, Ratata Arts will develop several pieces of new content for Ratatan including a secret ending, a mini-game, an additional rarity level, Hard mode, Dark Ratatans, and additional customization options.

Thus far, nearly 12,000 backers have funded Ratatan, which is now the 43rd most funded game in Kickstarter history. Only four stretch goals are left before the Kickstarter campaign ends on Friday, September 1 at 12:00 PM ET. One of the final stretch goals involves a collaboration with former Japan Studio developer Keiichiro Toyama, who is currently leading development of Slitterhead at Bokeh Game Studio. If the Kickstarter campaign reaches $1,297,000 in total funding, Toyama will be brought into the Ratatan studio to aid in its development.

Ratatan is one of the most promising Kickstarter campaigns in recent memory, and the developers appear to be very dedicated to ensuring a high-quality title is released on all platforms. Ratata Arts aims to have "everything in the game" by April 2025, and a Steam beta test is also planned. Kickstarter backers and fans can expect plenty of updates for Ratatan once funding ends this Friday.

Ratatan is currently scheduled to release in April 2025 for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
