A new video game called Ratatan just reached its Kickstarter funding target in an astonishingly short period of time, as it was able to obtain the necessary funds nearly immediately after the start of the campaign. Kickstarter is a fascinating platform that allows content creators to present their ideas to the online community, interact with possible backers, and potentially secure funding for said projects.

Throughout the years, Kickstarter has been successfully utilized by game developers to secure the necessary financial support in order to bring their creative ideas to life. Kickstarter is responsible for the existence of popular titles such as Hollow Knight and Pillars of Eternity. This crowdfunding platform has played a crucial role in bringing these games to life. Without the support of backers, it is possible that these projects may have never been able to secure the necessary funding to be developed.

Ratatan is a new rhythm-based video game concept proposed by the same Japanese developers responsible for the popular Patapon 2D platformer franchise, originally released for the PSP. After the project was posted on Kickstarter, it quickly reached its desired funding goal of $141,098 in just 47 minutes. At the time of writing, Ratatan has managed the impressive feat of acquiring more than $246,000 from 1,708 backers.

Ratatan plans to incorporate roguelike and intense rhythm side-scroller action into one big and entertaining adventure. In Ratatan, players will be able to command their powerful Cobun army and engage in frantic melee mayhem, on their own, or with up to three other players. Featuring an exquisite 2D animation style and four unique playable characters, Ratatan will take gamers on an electrifying journey filled with danger and excitement, according to developer Ratata Arts. Facing perilous enemies such as the ferocious Dekadon, or the Swashbuckling Mantaneers who travel along the tumultuous Paraddean Seas, players will have to use everything they have at their disposal in order to come out victorious.

While many Kickstarter video game projects exist, it is important to note that not all of them achieve the same level of success. Even if a project reaches its desired funding goal, the creators must also do their best to fulfill the high expectations of the backers. An unfortunate example of a Kickstarter failure is Mighty No. 9, a video game that was backed by numerous supporters and yet still underdelivered in the end. While Ratatan is still far from being released to players, it remains to be seen if the game will live up to its initial success on the crowdfunding platform.

Ratatan is currently scheduled to release in April 2025.
