The PS4 had an incredible run over the years, and now that the PS5 is in full swing, the Playstation 4 can sit back and relax and reflect on things. Gamers can now get most PS4 games for some super cheap prices, however there are a number of rarer PS4 games which can prove incredibly difficult to obtain... not to mention the staggering price tags.

From limited and collector's editions, to independent publishers and outlets publishing limited physical runs of niche indie titles, the PS4 rare game library is vast and extensive. It's worth mentioning here that there are many rare PS4 games exclusive to Japan, but these entries are mostly Western releases.

10 Blue Reflection

Blue Reflection

Platform(s)
PS4
Developer(s)
Gust
Publisher(s)
Koei Tecmo

Blue Reflection is a 2017 JRPG which draws many similarities to Persona 5. Players take the role of a ballet dancer, Hinako Shirai, and follow her daily activities going to school, spending time with friends and general life activities. Oh, and she also visits other worlds where she and her friends battle monsters in classic turn-based RPG combat. You know, day-to-day stuff.

It's hard to find a copy of Blue Reflection for less than $75 and if gamers are looking for a sealed, brand-new version, prices can go up even higher to well beyond $150. It's worth noting that there is a manual which comes with the physical copy, which always boosts the price of physical releases.

9 Strafe

Strafe

Strafe was Special Reserve Games' first physical PS4 release, which is the main reason it's held a lot of its value. Special Reserve are like many other independent publishers who publish limited physical runs of certain games. Strafe is an exciting FPS made as a homage to classic shooters like Doom and Quake with added rogue-like elements.

It's a fun and exciting title but gamers looking to purchase a physical copy will have to splash out anywhere between $70-$80. However, there is also a variant cover released which can go for even higher. Sometimes prices go slightly lower for U.S. residents, but for those outside of the States, Strafe is going to bleed a player's wallet quite a bit.

8 Night Trap

Night trap

Limited Run Games' 74th release has held its value over the years and retains a $90 price tag. Limited Run Games are perhaps the most popular independent publisher of limited physical releases as they have been doing it the longest. Night Trap is often sought after by classic FMV horror fans as it's a retro title remastered for the PS4.

Game is a loose term as Night Trap is more of an interactive movie, originally released back in 1992. The FMV game tasks players with watching over a handful of girls having a sleepover in a definitely-not-creepy old house which is definitely not infested with vampires or anything. Players control camera and activate traps to stop the monsters. It's a fun experience and not surprising that the physical release continues to hold its value.

7 Rez Infinite

Platform(s)
PS5 , PS4 , PC
Released
February 22, 2023
Developer(s)
Enhance

Rez Infiniteis a trippy, psychedelic, music rail shooter and a remaster of the original Rez from 2002. Rez Infinite included updated visuals and a VR mode, available to play with the Playstation VR, which is a surreal and unique experience. Rez Infinite was iam8bit's first physical release as a publisher, adding to its value.

An upgrade to the PS5 version has be made free to all owners of the PS4 version, which is great considering its physical price tags. Rez Infinite can be currently purchased for just under $100, but if players are looking for the limited edition of the physical release, this can be found upwards of $200. Sealed versions of either option can go for double their unsealed prices, making for a very expensive purchase.

6 Saturday Morning RPG

Saturday Morning RPG

Saturday Morning RPG is another Limited Run Games publication and was released as a limited physical copy for the PS4 in 2016. Players take command of high schooler, Marty, who gains magical powers to fight monsters of the HOOD. It's a fun RPG game intended to evoke nostalgia of classic Saturday morning cartoons and programs.

Cartoons are loved by fans across the world, but what are the best video games based on their animated adventures?

Physical copies of the release are hard to find for much less than $150, although cheaper copies can sometimes be found in the U.S. compared to Europe and the rest of the world. It's been a popular indie release since 2012 and fans have kept going back to it to experience that Saturday morning nostalgia.

5 Godzilla

godzilla ps4

Despite being a really terrible game, Godzilla (2014) now goes for a surprisingly high value of $150-$160, with some listings even exceeding the $200 price mark. It's puzzling that such an awful game has retained such a high value over the years, with the only logical explanation being that not many people actually bought it in the first place.

Upon its release in the west, the year after its Japanese release, critics panned the game, and it was quickly disregarded as one of the worst games of the year. It featured repetitive gameplay, terrible graphics and some really awful voice acting. If only gamers knew that it would hold so much value in years to come.

4 Gryphon Knight Epic

Gryphon Knight Epic PS4

Developed by Cyber Rhino Studios, Gryphon Knight Epic is a 2015 side-scrolling shooter where players control a knight flying a large gryphon across the skies. It's a fun shooter and features some awesome enemy designs and gorgeous pixel art visuals. Despite the seemingly simple gameplay mechanics, Gryphon Knight Epic has retained its status as one of the rarest PS4 games for quite a few years.

The most expensive PS2 games for collectors to buy can change over time, and in 2023, these 10 valuable PS2 games vie for the top spot.

The physical copy was released by Strictly Limited Games in 2017 and as it was one of the earliest publications, only 999 copies were produced. Due to the low number of copies, physical editions of Gryphon Knight Epic can sell for a staggering price tag of anywhere between $300-$500. Not bad for a little indie side-scroller.

3 PS4 Console With P.T. Demo

PT
P.T.

Platform(s)
PS4
Released
August 12, 2014
Developer(s)
Kojima Productions

This is an interesting entry because it's not a physical game. If gamers want to get their hands on P.T. (a playable teaser of the now canceled Silent Hills) they will have to buy a whole PS4 console. Originally announced at Gamescom 2014, fans could download the demo for free directly from the Playstation Store. Initially shown to be a mysterious new horror game, the completion of the demo rewarded gamers with a title reveal for the now defunct Silent Hills.

P.T. was an instant success and fans are still upset that the full game will never see the light of day. However, when the project was canceled, Konami removed the demo from the store, and it can never be redownloaded. This means that it's only playable on consoles that have kept the original download. Fans looking to buy a PS4 with P.T. installed can do so for upwards of $1,100-$1,300.

2 Tamashii

tamashii

A weird, creepy, brooding game, Tamashii had a limited physical release with an undisclosed number of copies. Allegedly, all copies have sold out since its eponymous Halloween release in 2020. It's incredibly difficult to find a copy that's even being sold and the less said about the price the better.

Tamashii, at its cheapest, can go for over $700. At it's most expensive, it's been known to surpass the $2000 threshold, making it an extremely rare entry. However, for fans of Junji Ito and weird horror, Tamashii is definitely worth checking out.

1 Poop Slinger

poop slinger

Poop Slinger featured a limited physical publication from joke publisher LimitedRareGames (Not to be confused with Limited Run Games), and only 84 copies were ever produced simply due to the fact that everyone thought both the game and website were one massive joke.

However, Poop Slinger is a real game where you actually sling poop at some poor innocent citizens. It's a pretty terrible game and is definitely not worth its price but hey, if players want to sling some poop then this game is always an option. There's a current listing on eBay going for over $17,000 but most seem to fall within the $4,000-$6,000 range.
