After a dicey start, Rare's Sea of Thieves has gone on to become a big hit with gamers. Although it launched with limited content, the game has seen new life over the past year thanks to big content updates, solid gameplay mechanics, and a release on the popular PC platform, Steam. With all eyes on what's next for the UK based company, the studio showed off Everwild at the X019, though information has been few and far between. After another tease earlier this summer, a new trailer from Rare shows off even more for the visually stunning action-adventure title.

Thanks to a new Director's Commentary trailer for Everwild, fans not only got to see more of the game in action, but learn about a few more previously unknown details as well. The 12 minute trailer introduces Executive Producer Louise O'Connor and Art Director Ryan Stevenson as they discuss the most recent Eternals trailer for the game. One aspect that fans may have missed is with the Rare logo itself, which is made to be similar to a window, where the shot moves through the logo to represent the company giving fans another look at the world of Everwild.

The player characters in this world are known as Eternals, which is where the name of that specific trailer comes from. They have a connection with the wildlife of this world, something the trailer hints at throughout with the various creatures like the deer and the winged animal that takes the food from the Eternal by the campfire. When crossing a narrow mountain pass, this connection between the Eternal and the four legged beast can be seen as they calm it after rocks fall and startle it.

Magic appears to be a major part of the game, though what has been shown so far appears to be more protective and based in nature. In the trailer's case, the Eternal uses a spell to protect a tree that appears to be clinging to life, to ward off insects that may be slowly killing it. Another shot shows an Eternal using a glowing butterfly style bug to light up a dark passageway and reveal hidden things. This shot, as well as what O'Connor says about it, also seems to hint that there will be plenty of secrets for players to discover in this world, pushing them to continue exploring the space.

Towards the end of the trailer, Stevenson highlights a scene where an Eternal is carrying a younger creature that appears to be in dire straits, leading to a scene where four Eternals, which teases the possibility of 4 player co-op, performing a sort of ritual to restore it back to full health. Ultimately, this event shows off the idea of spirits in the game. Without saying too much, spirits seem to play a large role in the game as players are able to call upon them at certain times.

While the added insight is appreciated, one question that has yet to really be answered is how the game will play. While people seem to already admire the art style and music, what players will be doing moment to moment in the game is still a pretty big mystery. Without a release date or window, Rare still has plenty of time to answers those questions.

Everwild will launch in 2021 for PC, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X.
