He Who Must Not Be Named is up for another Harry Potter, so long as another film gets made. Ralph Fiennes recently made comments saying that he would return as the villain should the studio require him.

Harry Potter ran eight films from 2001 to 2011. Beginning with Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and ending with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, the series followed J.K. Rowling's series of books about the boy who lived and his adventures at Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. Fiennes played Voldemort from the fourth film onwards, and his portrayal was iconic.

Despite his character dying in the final installment, it appears that Fiennes is down to return. At the red carpet premiere of The Menu, Variety caught up with Fiennes and asked if he would be up to return to the Harry Potter franchise if called on by Rowling or Warner Bros. Fiennes' response was laconic and simple: “Sure, of course. No question about it.” He did not qualify this with any story demands and simply appeared ready to jump back into the role.

Lord Voldemort (Harry Potter)

The question about Fiennes' return has gained more relevance, as Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has indicated that franchises like Superman and Harry Potter will be major focuses moving forward. Though there are no concrete plans, Zaslav's comments heavily implied he wanted to focus on the core Harry Potter franchise rather than any spin-offs. For instance, he claimed that it had been 15 years since a Harry Potter film was released (though the last movie came out in 2011, 11 years ago) and appeared to disregard the Fantastic Beasts series of films.

However, a return to the big screen might be difficult to pull off. Daniel Radcliffe spoke out against Rowling, and there have been various rumors about a rift between Rowling and other key cast members due to her comments on trans people, particularly trans women. Rowling appears to be set in her views, while various Harry Potter actors have been staunch allies of the LGBTQ+ community and might be reluctant to return to the series.

If the series does return, it's possible that Warner Bros. would adapt the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child stage play. In that stage play, Voldemort ends up being revived and rules the Wizarding World in an alternate timeline due to a mishap with a time-turner. On the other hand, the stage play has received a lukewarm or tepid response, at best, from fans, so it's possible the studio would come up with an original story.

The Harry Potter films are available on HBO Max.
