When a multiplayer shooter releases to a lukewarm reception, it's rare that it's able to salvage itself and become something truly exceptional. In recent years, it's become all too common for an ambitious title to drop just to fade into obscurity within a few weeks, especially with the rise of live-service titles like Fortnite. A select few, however, have been able to drag themselves back into the spotlight thanks to a plethora of factors, and one such game is Rainbow Six: Siege. After being released with little fanfare almost ten years ago, Rainbow Six: Siege has become the premier tactical shooter on the market.

Thanks to a series of improvements and coverage from content creators, Rainbow Six: Siege has developed an expansive community. From bright-eyed newcomers to seasoned veterans, Siege has charmed millions of gamers with its unique operators and tight gunplay. As is the case with many online multiplayer games, Siege's community has developed a series of unwritten rules that hang over each match. These guidelines help ensure a pleasant experience for players, whether they serve to establish a sense of etiquette, or inject some lighthearted fun into matches.

The Next Rainbow Six Game Should Bring Back One Feature That's Been Missing for 20 Years

While Rainbow Six: Siege has transitioned the series to multiplayer very well, there's one old single-player feature that needs to make a comeback.

Don't Ping on Valkyrie Cams

Valkyrie's kit revolves around making more cameras available for the defending team, deploying up to three of them that can be attached to nearly any surface. These can be essential for gaining information on enemy locations, especially during Siege's intense firefights, which is why one of Siege's unwritten rules is to never ping enemies on Valkyrie's cameras. Opponents are notified when they've been pinged, and if they're pinged in an area where there usually isn't a camera, they may find the Valkyrie camera and promptly destroy it.

Let Mira Players Reinforce Their Own Walls

Similar to Valkyrie, Mira is a useful defending operator thanks to her Black Mirror ability, which allows her to place a one-way window on nearly any wall. These walls can be reinforced or unprotected, but Mira's Black Mirrors can crucially only be deployed on the deployed side of a reinforced wall. For this reason, it's important that Mira's teammates allow her to reinforce her own walls. This way, she can strategically place a Black Mirror where she needs it without any important walls being blocked off.

Always Participate In Recruit Rushes

Rainbow Six: Siege's most basic operator is the Recruit, which lacks any special abilities, but does have a wide selection of available weapons. In the early days of Siege, its community developed an unorthodox attack strategy called the "Recruit rush", wherein all attacking players select Recruit and storm the objective. It can be surprisingly effective when defending opponents aren't expecting it, and if a player's teammates are indicating they plan to Recruit rush, it's proper etiquette to get in on the fun.

Don't Spoil An Ace

In games like Rainbow Six: Siege and CS: GO, a player performs an ace when they've killed all players on the enemy team. It's viewed as a major feat in most cases, and in Siege, players are greatly discouraged from spoiling another teammate's ace. There are some cases, like in a ranked game, where spoiling an ace may be unavoidable to ensure a victory. If players can help it, however, it's best to avoid killing any remaining enemies if another teammate is close to getting an ace.

Rainbow Six: Siege's community is one of the most passionate in the industry, and its unwritten rules are a testament to that. Even as Siege releases some unfavorable updates, its players still come together to experience Ubisoft's tight gameplay and unique mechanics. The game shows no signs of slowing down any time soon, and its unwritten rules won't be going anywhere either.
