During its Ubisoft Forward presentation at E3 2021, Ubisoft kicked things off with a proper first look at the upcoming Rainbow Six Extraction. Of the two Rainbow Six titles featured, Extraction definitely got the most focus, what with it being a brand new release due out later this year. But that doesn't mean it will be replacing Rainbow Six Siege or that Ubisoft is wrapping up its support for it. If anything, it sounds like Ubisoft intends to keep supporting the game well beyond its six years so far.

Aside from highlighting the newest playable Operator added to the game, Thunderbird, Ubisoft announced further plans for Rainbow Six Siege. And now it's holding a free weekend to attract new players to the tactical shooter. Said free weekend is already available across all platforms (PC, PlayStation, and Xbox) and is scheduled to conclude on June 21st at 9 pm local time.

What makes this free trial particularly enticing is that it contains the entire game, meaning no content has been cut off, allowing newcomers to experience everything Rainbow Six Siege has to offer. What's more, anyone who tries it out and ends up wanting to purchase the game won't need to worry about starting over from scratch, since all progress made during the free trial will carry over. And as most likely further enticement, the full game is being sold at a discount right now on digital storefronts.

Rainbow Six Siege

Now is probably a good time to jump into Siege properly since some big updates are planned for it relatively soon. Not only will it release for Google Stadia and Amazon Luna, crossplay and cross-progression are in the works as well.

Unfortunately, the game currently lacks the Outbreak mode, which Rainbow Six Extraction is explicitly based on. The mode was only ever available for a limited time in 2018, and there's no word on whether Ubisoft intends to bring it back. While anyone who enjoyed the Outbreak mode does that Extraction to look forward to this year, bringing the mode back for a second time in Siege could encourage newcomers into checking Extraction out as well.

While Extraction is still a tactical shooter, the focus is on PvE action rather than PvP. The general concept of the game is that a parasitic alien race has invaded Earth and the cast of Siege must work together to repel the alien threat.

Rainbow Six Siege is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
